Cmon MB!! Its been 5 months since I got the ABC pump and lines replaced and was stopped at a light last night when BANG! a tone of smoke came from under the hood. I had called MB about the noise my ABC pump was making for months now (They said it was normal) and finally setup to bring in the car on Monday. Now its sitting in a dodgy neighborhood till they come tow it on Monday.
Yes!! 2 months and the ABC problem is back!! I have now replaced the ABC pump and lines, and just this month a recall came out for my car for the exact problem. Before the recall was for CL55 only (Nobody at MB could understand that it should also be for regular CL500 as well because its the same ABC hoses and pump for both models) My question is this... I have paid over $4500 in ABC repairs plus the car has been in 5 times to keep getting the same problem fixed. They fix what they screwed up for free but always seems to find some other $1000 problem. Now that there is a recall shouldnt MB credit me something for all my repairs and time?
Yes, I'd try to get some of that back including the money for the ABC pump. You can bet it failed due to a blown hose that probably should have been recalled a long time ago. It seems that the hoses blow and the pump grenades because it keeps running with no fluid.
So as you can see from my last post that my car is back in service for the ABC. Since last October when I park the car the next morning the front passenger side of the car is dipped down so low the wheel is in the (wheel well) and needs to be raised before driving or else it wont turn. So not only have I had problems with the ABC but have been paying on replacing the control arm and bushings on the front passenger side, makes sense because the cars sits akward every night for last 9 months. Today I get a call from MB saying that now its the fluid control valve for the "Front passenger wheel" (see the pattern here??) and want $1400 to replace. I refused to pay and said I was going to keep the loaner car until this matter is settled, im pretty close to 6k in repairs all becasuse of the ABC system. Also a recall has come out for the hoses which I have paid to replace which is also the reason why my ABC pump blew (which I paid for) My sugeestion was that MB should credit me for the recall parts and labor I paid for and fix the valve using that credit and I would be a happy guy. The respponse I got was it might take weeks to approve that, so I said "Well, I guess I will keep the loaner till then" Is it me or am I getting screwed on this whole ABC system?
I purchased that car brand new and it has around 70k miles (all highway because I work from home) and its never been in an accident.
For the record, I love the car and do like the people at the dealership and they have always been very nice but not very understanding when it comes to this ABC problem. But I am afraid to drive it anywhere because I dont know if I will be stranded on the side of the Florida Turnpike which has happened before. Last month I had to drive to Miami for a business meeting and rented a car for the 3 hour drive due to my scare of being stranded. For 98k I wish I could have a vehicle that was reliable.
Sorry for the rant just frustrated, andy advice on my next step would be helpfull.
I was having the same problem and I took my 2001 s55 in for the ABC Hose recall .. they said the valve was bad too which pissed me off .. I would think that would be covered .. Anyways, I called around to figure out if this should be covered under the recall also but it does not appear so .. the dealer also told me that the valve may not fix the problem and i may need to get the pump replaced also .. when i talked to another service place they told me they just experienced the same problem with an 03' and the valves actually fixed the problem .. i hope this is the case with mine as i don't feel like throwin another 2grand at this problem that seems to be all over the place .. ty mb

Hey phdoges and alex.....I have a 2001 S600 and I think somethings wrong with my ABC also cuz every 3 to 5 days I dont drive my car the right side of the car goes really low........all I do is push the button to raise the car and after that its fine but it will always do it if I dont drive the car 3 to 5 days. Is there also a recall for my car?what do you think the problem is? any help is apprecaited,,,thank you and God Bless !!!
Thats how mine was for a good 6 months before the whole system gave out. Your car should be covered under the recall, get them to check the ABC valves before they tell you that you need to replace a ton of stuff, that usually the problem
Well, its been about 6 weeks since I got my ABC fixed....twice, and its broken again! Yep the 3rd time! I have only driven about 1000 miles since the repair......ABC = BAD!!!!!! The car feels so fragile now I am afraid to drive it anywhere.
Better get used to the CL500 problems.
Make sure you have spare coin in your checkbook as well! You'll need it.
I have had mine 3 1/2 years, driven it less than 11K miles, and M-B has had the car for 57 days for service in that period. Some items still not fixed, and it's still under warranty!
Heat never works. First it was the A/C. So they fixed the A/C 3 years ago and the heat has never worked since then (and before).
I have a list of problems with that car which includes the ABC with fluid all over the place!.
Filed suit this week against them under the Ca lemon law. They will own it soon at a healthy price.
Do yourself a favor and bail out of it now before it gets worse.
My lease is up in November so I am def gonna give it back! Keep me posted on the Lemon Law thing, I used to think MB was about quality which is why I always wanted one. My ex still drives the 82VW that I gave and still runs like a champ
