Probably the bumpy roads where he lives. Still, I'd stick with the 18"
Your exactly right, this is my 3rd wheel I am straigtening, 2 of my fronts were repaired, now one of my rears are bent. I use WheelCollision Center in PA and they do good work. The roads in NJ are horrible, and in NY its worse. I regret getting the sports package on the 500, if I had a 55 or 600 then its a requirement! Thanks for the replies.

I think then the 17" will definitely help a lot. There is a lot more sidewall on the tire to absorb impacts. Your ride will be smoother too. I live in Boston so I feel for you. If you really want both worlds however, you can go with a superlight forged alloy wheel. It won't be cheap but they are significantly stronger as the AMG wheel is cast (other than the CL65 wheel) not forged and a bit heavier which makes the ride worse and the wheel more vulnerable.
So if you must have the performance, looks, and strength, then you gotta drop some money.
Also keep in mind what else is happening to the car if you are bending rims. Thats a severe impact. At the very least you need an alignment, but the car is taking a hit everywhere. Its like being punched really hard. You need to worry about more then the bruise on your skin.
