2011 E350 oil interval?

My old 2006 E350 was 12,000 miles for oil change while my new 2011 calls for 10,000 miles. While I think they are both too long I plan on removing all the crankcase oil at about 5,000 and replacing same.
Anybody know what weight oil is in there? 5W40 synthetic?

I change it myself every 7,500 miles. Doesnt cost very much and it gives me a little piece of mind.

Oil questions always seem to open a can of worms---or opinions. But I have to ask, it it's a new car, wouldn't it initially have break in oil from the factory? If so, should you leave the break in oil in the car until MB says to replace it?

For our S550, we changed the oil at around 6000 miles, but that's because my wife only put that many on the car the first year. I'm not sure about the E yet.

+1 I don't think any manufacturers have used "break in oil" for years. All the new car manuals I've read since the early 1990s all say not to use any special "break in oils" and the car comes filled with "regular" oil from the factory.

There are a few that either have the specific oil or additives in the oil. But really, it was just a question, a hypothesis of sorts. IF there is indeed a break in oil, (or additives to oil), designed specifically to assist during wear in, I thought that it may be wise to follow the oil change guidelines just as the manufacturer has recommended.

for example: I had my car a year and had 5000 miles on it. So the computer told me to change the oil after 365 days. You will not have a problem if you change it at 4K miles or wait the 10-12K miles.

I've also read that the initial oil filter from the factory is different for the first 10k. Is this true? If so I would assume that it is a finer filter for catching smaller particulate?

Interesting. It looked the same as the replacement but it would be hard to tell if what you read is true. I have never heard that. I know like on GM vehicles the filter is the same as the replacment because the filters are more easily identified than the cartridge type on MB
