It shows you the current settings/strings for the individual components.
Some settings regarding the display can be changed or for the DVD like the region and PAL/NTSC/SECAM settings for the video or settings for metric and standard. Information on bluetooth and navigation.
Please note!! As Diesel indicated above if you are not familiar and are with any abbreviations called out in the engineering menu then press the off button on the Comand and leave it alone. However If you are like me who is curious and want to know more than just what is on the surface than it is has lots of information.

 

COMAND Hacks

Browsing the German website "Motor-Talk.de" on the new 2010 E class I found the following thread that will get you into the engineerings mode on the Comand unit.
Press End call - 1 - # buttons all at the same time for 10 seconds and the screen gets you in the engineering mode.
While in that screen press: End call -4 - # buttons at the same time for 10 seconds and a second screen is available. I tried them both out and it works!
Happy browsing! Getting out of the screens just turn Comand off.
