There may be posts on this elsewhere...sorry if this is a duplicate.
I have a 2004 e55 that just recently had the "check engine" light come on (49,805 miles). I've read a bunch of articles since then and, without a proper diagnostic, think it may be the mass air flow sensor. Symptoms are, sporadic loss of power and the car stalled once at a stop...the dealer says that the MAF is around $780 and it's $140 for a diagnostic that will be applied to the price of repair if I proceed. I'm ordering new air filters now and am about to go to the second tank of gas since the light came on.
Does anyone have experience with the MAF replacement on this engine? Thoughts?

A full diagnostic scan should be done (either at the dealership, or an independent MB shop with the proper equipment).
Your symptoms could be due to:
-MAF
-Camshaft Position Sensor
-Vacuum leak
-Fuel Pump and/or Filter
Try going to AutoZone, and see if they can pull codes for you (free service).
And you dealer should know you don't have a MAF. You should tell them to go ahead and do the work, and if they charge you for a MAF, sue their ass! :-)
