New E63 - some questions from a new forum member

I bought a Valentine V1, figuring this would be the most important addition. The cigarette lighter plug keeps me from closing the plug cover (see picture) which is annoying. The V1 comes with a cord that lets you clamp on to a wire carrying current instead. Would you do this to your E63? Any advice on a convenient under-dash wire to choose? Will I affect my warranty?
