Been checking this forum for a while and I finally received my 04 E55... The car drives like a dream. Never thought they can make cars that drives/feels like this. (Previous car was an 02 CLK55. Loved it but not even close) I paid close to 39k. Car has 53k miles and it has every option that I heard of)
Only problem I'm having is with the Keyless Go... I only have one Key. It does everything except start the car!
I can open/lock doors & trunk... When inside the card and reach to the handle on driver's side to try to test locking while key is in car, car says: Key detected in vehicle... Changed batteries on key as per an older post... Still car won't start with the keyless button (key works when inserted manually)
When you guys hit the keyless button on the shifter without hitting the brakes, does anything happen? (like does the car alert you to depress the Brake?) In my case nothin at all :-(
Any ideas? Or suggestions? Any direct fuse related to this one?
The start button will turn on accessory power but not start the car unless the brake pedal is pushed. There is no warning that I know of to tell you this. 1 push = acc. power. 2 push = "ignition on" all power as if the car were running, but no start. 3 push = all off again. If this isn't happening, there is a problem. It should be detailed in the owner's manual.
Thanks for the fast reply. Nothing at all is happening when I hit the start/stop button on the shifter! I know that the key itself is good because the car identifies it and it opens/close doors and the trunk (as well as open/close windows from the door handle keys)
Any suggestions on where further to investigate before I take the car in for service? (BTW had a friend hook up his laptop with STAR software and no errors were registered) Key was identified (Key 2) but don't know exactly how to proceed from here (aside from going to a dealer)
Nope :-) I'm planning to buy an after market warranty.
It's my understanding that I cannot buy an MB warranty once the original warranty runs out. is that the case? I would much rather buy an MB warranty if I can.
Thank you so much for your help. Will update this once I get it fixed.
Pretty much correct. To get a CPO MB warranty, you'd have to get the car from a dealer. Now that you've bought it private, it's aftermarket or nothing. It's a ton of money for the MB CPO warranty. You'd have to have at least a couple of claims for it to be worth it. Typically it's anywhere from 3-5K on top of the price you'd pay for the same car without it.
Just an FYI if this happens to anyone (very slim chance)
My issue turned out to be a cut wire (the one going from the start/stop engine button on shifter to a plug inside the shift unit) right near the base of the lever inside the shifting box...
It took a lot of troubleshooting and eventually taking apart the shifter to reconnect the
wire. Was simple as anything after knowing what went wrong.
