Yesterday I let my best friend drive my car after lunch and met him at a retail establishment - I saw him backing into a parking spot (idiot...) next to a curb and noticed the rear tire BARELY hit the curb and put scratches (some more than paint scratches) on the very outside part of the rim by the tire in a few areas. Needless to say he feels horrible and will pay to repair. I am probably the only person who will ever notice the damage but due to the fact the car is basically brand new with only 3,500 miles it irritates me quite a bit.
Any suggestions?
New rims?
Repaint the entire rim?
Refininsh the area that is damaged?
Any estimates on costs?
Sorry to hear that..Refinish the area that is damage & repaint & repolish ( if necessary). cost around $120. if you bring w/o the tires. $140 if the tires is mounted. (they charge extra for removing & mounting. balanced included on $140) you can call Wheels of America 1-888-59-ALLOY. check for pricing and shop location. Heres's there website: http://fixrim.com/loc.htm
I highly recommend Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA. They just completed refinishing a $6K set of rims for one of my other cars, including one rim that I though was beyond hope of repair. When I got the rims back, they looked brand new. I was amazed and very pleased, and all of the wheel runout measurements were easily within specification following the repairs. Not the cheapest place, but the best of several of used over the years.

thats how it should be, like brand new and within the specs. and not as expensive as buying a new one.
you can do it by yourself it will cost you about 50 $ to do nice job on one wheel all you need is sand paper, bondo, primer and Wurth Silwer paint and clear.
why take chance on your safety?...if it's going to cost you extra $100.00, remember you are talking about your Rims it's not a door handle or a piece of a metal that is not moving parts when youre using the car. Safety first all the time.
