Here's the explanation taken from an internet review on the E63:

'And just in case you're wondering why this 6.2-liter engine (it measures 6,208cc) is being called a 6.3-liter, Mercedes says it's in tribute to the 300 SEL 6.3, which debuted in 1968 and is the great, great, great grandfather of today's E55. Don't let it bother you. The 5.5-liter it's replacing only measures 5,439cc.'

Here is a picture of the E63(& SL65) at the 06 AMG Challange in Fontana. We did not get to drive the car but Rob Allen stated that the car would be available in Florida. We did get to drive the new SL65 and S65. Rob also stated he would post something on the AMG lounge to discuss the reduction of torque. They put in the real paddles for shifting and the car sounds even more intimidating than the E55!
