E65 AMG

Certainly there are few things more fun than a 600 hp 700 ft/lb V12.

Why don't we have an E65 AMG? Is it all about product positioning? Does the 12-banger not fit in the "E"? What's the score?

They only put that engine in the high end cars: SL65, CL65, and S65. They will soon have the CLS65. Would you pay $180k for a E class? I wouldnt! Just mod your E55 with kleemann and you'll have close to 600hp and save about $80k

Yea, I know about the EV12 but I was talkin about from the factory. Brabus puts V12's in almost everything[:D]

When I talked to Mr. Allen (can't remember his first name) at the AMG challenge last July, he said no V12 in the E or CLS because it wouldn't meet frontal impact regs. The 5.5 dives down the transmission tunnel in a head-on collision. Apparently, the V12 is long enough that they can't engineer it to do the same. He said Brabus isn't held to the same regs and can basically stick a V12 into anything that fits.

Just some more thoughts -- not that any of this matters, it's just thoughts, so no flaming is necessary, thanks.

Isn't the CL class built on the same platform as the E class? And if so, how come we can get a CL65 and not an E65?

I am beginning to beleive that this is much more about marketing and product positioning than engineering, but again, that's just my guess. Any manufacturer in their right mind is going to line up available products against what the market will bear, so perhaps the E65 just doesn't fit. Said another way, perpaps there is a significant number of buyers willing to pay for a CL65 at $180K but not an insignificant number of buyers willing to pay $180K for an E55.

I just read about the Brabus EV12 in "European Car" magazine. Very cool and fast and stealthy. But there's still just something about the production-model hot rod that would be cool.

I guess maybe the next generation S65 may be interesting...

The CL is on the S platform and the CLS is on the E.

The premium from going from 500HP to 600HP based on some programming, the brakes, and a pair of turbos seems pretty steep. It will be interesting to see if the E63 comes in just a little pricier than an E55 even though it is cheaper for MB to build...and even if there will be an E65.

Those Euro impact standards call for the engine hardpoints to be a certain distance from the hood. An easy fix is a power bulge. Rob Allan gives safe answers so he doesn't disclose any future products.

Why would the E63 be cheaper then the E55 to build? I'm willing to assume that they will make other upgrades to brakes, suspension, and maybe make the E63 even sportier.

I think MB is about to trip up over itself when it comes to names again (remember the W140? XXXSEL, then SXXXL, then just SXXX etc.),... because there will now be a supercharged E55 & a Naturally aspirated E550,... or will they call it E53 or something? Either way I hope the E63 makes it into production. [8)]

please understand, all we need in this life are V8 engines, the rest can go in the bin, kleemann can arrange some much needed and much apreciated power for ur gorgeous V8

p.s i know i drive a V6 but excuse me, i'm young and have many years to sort it out
