A blown engine post is bad... but a dealer totaled 05 e55 is downright depressing
I read about a similar deal with a customers new Corvette and the dealer first tried to have the customers insurance cover the damage. The customer had to get legal help and it took about a year to get the dealer to make things right.
I hope no one got hurt in the accident, but seeing a car like that mortally wounded would be like seeing a picture of Jessica Simpson in 50 years.

No doubt it was an out of body experience [:)] I certainly never expected to get a call from the service manager saying my car had been in an accident, possibly totaled. Needless to say I was in shock, and at one point actually asked them if this was a practical joke or something... All I can say is I'm glad their insurance company totaled it because there is no way I wanted that car back "repaired". It took about 5 anxious weeks to work through all the red tape but finally got resolved. My new one is practically identical, plus two options; the rear sunshade [no big deal], and the drive dynamic seats..which are very cool. Unfortunately there was a mid-year design change, mostly very subtle things with the exception of the center console. The post Sept/Oct 05's have that roll top arm rest which I can't stand. Seems like a small thing but I really hate it. I absolutely love every inch of that car, except the damn arm rest!
I knew that it wasn't just me who thought that roll top console cover was a stupid idea!! Do these bean counters actually ever drive the cars??? That has got to be one of the most uncomfortable "armrests" in any production automobile.
Damn - that motor looks brand new.

Sincerest regrets.
Cooling kit? From AMG??
Just wondering.
Can you tell us how anything about it happened?
Hi!
I'm in the market for an AMG and was wondering if yours was heavily modded when it blew? I read you ran 11.59 but didn't know if you had modded your car at all before the mishap or not. If so, did you de-mod it before bringing it in the dealership? Or is AMG pretty good with warrantying modded engines, etc.?
I ask because I a current Ford Lightning owner. We have so many horror stories of dealers refusing to warranty an engine or even minor repairs (heads spitting sparkplugs, which is a design issue) because of petty mods like air filter kits, etc. I'm hoping MB/AMG is more forgiving?
If you don't want to respond in a public forum for any reason, please feel free to email or PM me. cyntaxx AT gmail DOT com.
the car was stock w/ 2800 mi on it when it blew, no mods. I only recently modded new motor. I have only heard of 2 sl modded motors that blew and mb fixed them. there is a known heat problem w/ these motors and thats what causes them to blow. heat + weak castings = BLOWN MOTOR! don't be afraid of getting one and modding, just do it right and theres cooling kits now for them so its being addressed in the after market.
what the hell are you doing driving a ford lightening!!!!!!
