I went with 3M Panther 20, it's one step below Limo. looks very nice on my Tectite. I'll post a picture soon. side window tint is a fix it ticket here in CA and usually only enforced if the cop wants to be a prick. It's amazing how much cooler the car stays. The 3M tint I have only allows 50% of the light energy through and is only 7% reflective. You can do a search on 3m tint for more info. Make sure you get the window seals felted. A good tint shop will know what to do.

I have gotten my last 4 cars done at the same place and the quality is excellant. I use the "ultimate" series dark I think its 28% (just a shade lighter then Limo) in the back, and 18% in the front With the Merc I also was not sure about how the blue factory tint would do, but It looks great, My car is black on black so definetly needed to get darker tint looks awesome, In Cal, it is also illegal to tint side and front of driver, but the laws are farely relaxed and keeping the contrast a shade lighter on the front seems to help.
Also want to mention an explanaition my tint guys told me about Merc. They needed to add a thin layer of felt, to avoid the factory ruber sealing to get a rock and scratch the tint. I was concerned at first but saw several merc'st hey had done and requested it.
For your blue car there is an option of tint you might want to look at its the reflected "mirror" shade that you see most commonly on Lexus RS300's for silver or blue cars it can look kinda cool.

I am about to take possession of a 2005 black on black E55 up in NorCal. I definitely think the tinting is necessary.
How much should I expect to pay, and can anyone recommend a place to do it up here. I live near Walnut Creek, CA. Should I tint all 6 windows (front and back included) or leave the front window untouched? I ask this because some of the pictures you guys have up here have everything tinted but the windshield.

Whatever tint you get, DO NOT GET METALIC TINT. I work at a dealership and when people put metalic tint on their car it totaly messes up radio reception. We tell them there is nothing we can do with mettalic tint. The Mercedes anttena work with the windows and with the metalic tint it scrambles the FM signals. Just letin you know.

Wow, not putting film with metals in it is the exact oppossite advice that I would have given. The better quality films use metals in the tints as oppossed to dye. Tint with metals are much higher quality!! The films with metal do not fade like those who use dye. Also metallic tint is much easier to see out of than tint which uses dyes. Since you all are referring to lighter shades of tint, it might not be as important, but I know that of the friends I have with 5 percent tint, the ones who have cheap film, with dyes, have to roll their windows down at night to see!! Good quality films include Llumar and Formula One. They are just about the same, seeing as how the are made by the same company, but Formula one is a little better.
