2003 E320 Transmission Question ( "C" or "S") setting

Hello everyone, I am a proud owner of a 2003 E320. Very nice.. However I have a question on the transmission setting above the shifter.

It has "C/S". My dealer told me the "C" is for winter driving, and leave the setting on "S"?? Doesnt make sence. However in the product guide it states that "C" is for comfort. Someone said "C" skipps first gear. Is it possible, "S" is for "sport"

Anyway, do I keep the setting "C" or "S", any info would be great!!

Thanks

John

my car is W/S setting not C/S ???

S means standard, you can use it whole year and
W means winter, you use it when
1. snow on the ground
2. water on the ground
3. your car stop on a hill, you don't want it rolling back

w mode will use 2nd gear to start the car and it is programmed to handle the slippery road condition.

s mode for all other condition and it saves you gas as well.

"C" denotes Comfort, but MB used to call it "W" for winter mode. Basically C or W starts off the car in second gear for less slippage (due to less torque) in second gear. Because of this, particularly if you have the larger engine, it does appear to have a smoother takeoff.

S = Sport but really means normal mode. You would probably leave it in S msot of the time.

Hope this helps!
