Hey guys,
I've been posting on this thread - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211-e-class/2796906-rear-differential-making-grinding-noise.html about my noisy differential on my 06 320CDI and have been asking about rebuilding the one I have. However, I see several on ebay I can buy reasonable. My question is how to tell which one will fit. Many don't post the ratio but just state which year/model it came from - like 03-06 W211 E320/E500. I don't know if these are all mostly the same or not. How can I confirm it will be right?
It is just an example. Go to car-part.com enter all the info (you are actually looking for the part Carrier not differential)
and there may be one very close to you.
That part number is just the diff housing or case. It is a bare part.
Now if a used seller is using that part number with all the inernals, it is the correct housing, but the internal gear ratio can be different. It really needs to come from a CDI. For example a 2006 E500 is a 2.82:1 ratio. You will have speedo issues and the engine will run a higher RPM to go the same speed as the 2:65:1 ratio.
Here is the complete differential diagram for your 2006 CDI. https://www.mbdirectparts.com/oem-p...ntial-case-2303510105/?c=aT1GMzQ4MDcwNCZyPTE=
That's a great point Noodles - thank you! I found one that came off a wrecked 05 320CDI. It has 150k miles on it. Other than changing the fluid, what else should I absolutely do/replace before I install it?
Also - still looking for any DIY removal/replace instructions.
