Mercedes W211, E220 CDI - Transmission/Engine problem!

Hi,

I hope for some assistance and help, cause it's highly important for me.

Well, let's describe the problem. I have owned the car for 6 years now. I have had problem regarding buzzing, vibration and shaking in the car. It has a automatic gearbox.

I had SBC problem that occured for about 3 weeks ago. Cost me quite alot, had to replace the whole unit, and now this problem has re-occured.

Ok, I have had this problem now and then, but not that big. It could start vibrate and buzz in very low RPM, then by pushing the gass a bit it stopped. It happened mostly in low gear, low RPM and low speed. Now it is crazy bad. You can for the most part "feel" that the car doesn't go well. I drove in 60 km/h today and you could feel the vibration and buzzing so bad. And you can feel the buzzing and vibration going under my seat and towards the exhaust.

Also, when I drive home, I have a veeeery short uphill road towards my garage, very, so when I let the throttle go so it goes idle to the garage, I can feel the engine start shaking, and you can feel it is about to be suffocated, just like if it were a manual, when you doesn't change right. But it always survives, but it's a bad feeling though.

Any opinions or thoughts around this? I really need help. What can be the problem? Could it be a serious problem? Please help!

I suggest you take it in and have the MB dealer or the indy pull the codes.
SBC is warranteed for 10 yrs in the US, what country are you from?
Please complete your profile with kilometers, year, RWD or 4Matic etc....

I used that as an arguement as well to the dealer, but he said it didn't cover here in Norway, and that they had different warranty policy. So yeah, it cost 4800$ to replace, but got it done for 2k$, so under 50% off retail.

Car has gone around 180.000km, 2003 model, RWD.

Have you ever had the motor mounts/transmission mounts replaced?

Is your engine actually misfiring?

Why do you ask about the mountings? I had mine replaced and ended up with a torque convertor failure which had to be refurbed along with the auto box.

Is there a connection?

Maybe the original poster needs to consider the TC as an option, seeing as these e classes seem to have a tendency for these to mess up?

No, basically nothing changed or replaced other than changing gear oil on the automatic transmission. Thanks for the reply.

Oh, that sucks. How much did it cost for you when you replaced the TC? I don't know, really. I have always have had a sort of problem with the automatic on mine, it's fricking annoying. I drove a E270 CDI once, and it had the same problem. It appears mostly 03' models have this problem that I have. Hmf!

Thanks for any reply.

£2500 for TC and gearbox refurb as water got in from the old rad. Price included a new rad. Its a late 02 E270 cdi. I'm still not entirely happy with the auto gear changes on mine.

That sucks so bad. Yeah, Mercedes can be such a arrogant company at times. My Benz-retailer tried pulling a scam on me, when asking for price on the SBC. Said he had 'searched' for warranty, when he hadn't. Fucking cunt! Just billed me a 'one time only offer' on almost 5k $, or around 4k £. I mean WTF? That's just sick. I might as well sell the car and buy a used one in Germany then.

I have huge problems with the gearbox myself. The gas is very strange. Also when on idle, you can see the RPM-meter jump a little bit every 5-10 sec, like it's not stable on idle. And on the gas as well. I don't really fucking know right now. I have invested too much money on this one to just sell it, but on the other way, I still want it.

Thanks for the replies, mate. Sorry for your problems, though!

Careful with your language mate ;-)

I am no expert, but your problems sound just like the torque convertor issues I had. Have you had that checked out, or the ATF changed and tested?
