Timimg chain failure:W211 E200 Kompressor,2006

Hello Everybody,
I am new South African to Benzworld and pardon me if I ask same old questions, here it goes:
I own a 2006 model E200 Kompressor with 111 000 kilometres and took it for normal service @ MB and all was well until i drove the car for 600 kilometres and the car started to misfire, vibrate and loose power.Ultimately it couldnt move and was towed to the nearest dealership.
They did some tests, see attached report and quote and concluded that cylinder head need to be reconditioned, relapped, valves replaced and sealed.
Is this normal for a car of such mileage?
My research shows that the engine series has the same problems ans MB hasnt been doing nothing about it except when your car is still on warranty.
Thirdly why didnt they pick it pu during diagnostics when I took it in for service two days ago?
Who must take the cost responsibility?
Why didnt they recall this engines and do something on their single timing chains?
I want to negotiate with MB to get the car fixed at their cost based on the above. Please go through the reports and advice on way forward
Thank you and God Bless
Malesela

1) did you buy the car brand new or 2nd handed and if yes when/what mileage did you buy?

2) do you have proof of regular oil change?...proof of using only MB approved engine oil.

E200 Kompressor Timing chain failures

Hi Zaxler,
I bought the car in 2010 as second hand and was always serviced by MB as the car was on maintenance/motor plan, assuming that they used the correct oil.MB system does shows that it was serviced at all times as and when so required. It was at 60km when I bought it.

What? ... You bought a 2006 car in 2010 with only 60KM done?
You simply don't know what happened to the car before you took ownership of it.
My bet is that the car might have been involved in a collision before and the timing chain was misaligned from the impact therefore the premature failure of the camshaft and the valves and the piston head. You don't seem to be in any good position to negotiate with the repair workshop.

Geez at that quote it would be much cheaper to just transplant a low mileage engine from an accident vehicle.. will cost you around half of that quote..

Totall around R40 000 is ridiculous.. if the vehicle was on motorplan and all services were done on time, you can negotiate a "good will" repair with Mercedes South Africa.

Perhaps if they could cover majority of the costs involved..
