Oil leak Help!

My 07 e350 2 wheel drive has started to leak oil. It only has 54k. It is coming from the back of the engine in front of the driver side close to the firewall. It looks like it is coming from below the valve cover gasket but not the oil cover. Any ideas and can it be fixed without taking it to the dealer. I am somewhat mechanical. Thanks

You are going to have to clean up that area and then leak for its source with it cleaned up.
Too hard to diagnose over the net without pics.
Also a small amount of oil can look like a lot more than it is when it spreads out.

My 08' developed a leak in the same location, it was the valve cover gasket and, I think, some sort of expansion plugs. Fixed under warranty

On my 06 E350 4M,I've had the valve cover gasket, expansion plug and camshaft cap (round black 2 inch cover) all leak at different times, they were all repaired/replaced under warranty. If you're out of warranty and you want to DIY then do what Noodles suggested above to find the source, use a mirror to pinpoint the leak.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the expansive plug is leaking. Looking at it closer the valve cover is dry. Is it difficult the change the expansive plug?

Our 05 started to leak last month and I had it fixed under warranty, eleven hours labor for several different things on the engine (valve covers and something else) and 2 leaks on transmission. Free!!!

the e320 wagon I bought recently is leaking like sieve from the upper oil pan AND the rear main seal. As most of you know there is no gasket, only sealant (why?)

BTW the car only has 68K.

It also has the usual bad motor and trans mounts- vibrating like a well used Kia.

All these issues are preplexing to me considering the overall excellent condition of the car, and my previous experience with the w126 cars.
