Window Tinting

Hi All:

I plan on getting the windows on my 2009 E350 tinted. Any guidance or helpful advice? It feels like the factory version didn't come with much of a window tint. I live in Houston so the tinting should help with the hot days. I dont want to make too dark. I like the car to maintain it's elegant look.

Take a look at formula one pinnacle ceramic tint. comes in light shades but does a good job of keeping out heat and UV. Also doesn't interfere with telecommunications like some metallic films can. It's not cheap, but neither is your benz.

There's the dot matrix around the edges of the back window. Good tint shops with quality tint will make sure the tint sticks uniformly to the dots, so there are no bubbles between the dots. (You can see that by looking at the windows of cars with badly done tint.) The other option is to not tint over the dots and leave an untinted edge around the back window, which is not bad imho. Ask the shop if he can guarantee that the dot matrix will be tinted properly and possibly look at some of the cars that they've done with the dot matrix.

Start first with finding out state and local ordinances for window tint; a good shop will tell you and show you samples. Lots of places have restrictions and then you know what's legal. Even if you decide to go past the legal limit, at least then you're aware. I will say that nothing sucks more than having to peel off an expensive, quality tint job. Of course getting pulled over isn't fun, either.

I am currently looking into tint options too. I really like the blue glass that came on my 2008 sport pkg E350 and I want a tint that will still keep the blue hue. Can anyone post pics of their tints on sport pkg E classes with the blue glass and please indicate the percentage you went with? Thanks in advance.

I live over here in Phoenix and its already 95 degrees out. I got a Sun Tek carbon film that I really like on my 09 C300. Used a company called Detail Wiz Window Tinting Scottsdale | Phoenix | Car Detailing . . was told that they're a chain. I paid a little under $250 which is more than a lot of places quoted me, but it was worth it. The only catch is that they won't come tint your car if you don't have a garage. I had them come to my office the first time and they wouldnt tint my car there because all we have is an open parking lot, so I had to wait a week for them to come to my house. Anyway..I like the Sun Tek carbon because its real good at keeping the heat out. Got 5% in the back and 15% in the front. I got a fix it ticket, but I just paid it..not worth the cost of getting it taken off.

I paid $195+tax for my tint. Included a sunstrip (windshield strip) and removal of old tint. Here in Florida the rules are 28% front and 15% rear. The guy said my tint is a shade below legal, but both front and rear look the same to me. I'm not sure what brand or percentage it is. Looks good though and comes with a lifetime warranty. Second car I've had done at this shop, and I'm happy with the 4 year old tint on my other car, though it's not as dark as the Benz. I get nothing but compliments on both tint jobs. Here's a link to some pics:

Just make sure they offer a lifetime warranty and you should be good.

So, you just paid a ticket because your tint was illegal.. Do they have inspections where you are? I guess if you do and you can't get it inspected what next??
I have found that it's always best to follow this letter of the law because if you live in NC you would have problems getting the car inspected and the illegal tint tickets are logged into the system. All you would need is a cop having a bad day and the state is within their rights to impound the car. Not worth removing?? Think again..
