Angry SBC Hold Unavailable

Dear all,

This is CHRIS, an E320 user in Hong Kong. For past two weeks, the SBC Hold function is not working and shown "SBC Hold Unavailable"

I found from here which someone said the AUX battery should be an issue, or the SBC pump fail etc. So I send the car to Mercedes Hong Kong (this is a company for sales and after service, the name call Zung Fu).

After they check up the issue, they found a news which I never find here, they said the issue is not come from the SBC system or the battery, this is come from a sensor in the change gear shaft compartment.

The SBC hold unavailable is cause by the signal cannot correct to send out from this unit/sensor, so the car not sure what status you are running (because it can only working at D, N, R)

This is very expensive for repair need HKD15,000 (around USD1,900)

Just wondering anyone heard about this issue?

Thanks

I find this confusing as the HOLD system is supposed to be part of the ABR and not SBC. Oh and I know Zung Fu.

Hi Eric, thanks for the reply. I am not sure the SBC HOLD is a part of the ABR and not SBC, anyway it's shown SBC Hold unavailable that means the SBC problem. But they found out the issue is not from the SBC system, which cause by the other parts, so they will not provide the free service on it.

I am thinking can I have some support from Germany Head office or not.

It depends on the age of the car and how long it has been out of warranty. But I do not trust Zung Fu, had dealings with them myself.

Do you have a copy of the bill? If not try to find out exactly which parts they changed so I can try to help you with the connection to SBC and a possible way of making them pay.

No, they have nothing to do, and just told me that parts was damaged, they bill only USD100 for the checking chargers.

I will get back the car on tomorrow because USD1,900 is too expensive for me. I will try to learn more about this then send to garage for cheaper way, or try to do it myself.

I hope so....

Yes, I've seen several owners facing this very same issue. I would not call it an SBC-issue but shouldn't you try to find a better price for the broken part? You might even be able to fix it without a new part.

If you mean the floor shift part number, I would need your VIN to be sure but for a 5-speed tranny it is likely A2112675824, German price 340 Euros (plus VAT).
