Low Battery Warning

My '06 E350 kept giving me the low battery, convention features not available warning every day. Once I drove the car for a few miles, that would go away. I went and got the battery, charger and alternator checked but they were all showing as ok. But now the car won't start at all. Is there way to find out if the battery is bad or if something keeps draining the battery?

Did you check BOTH batteries? There are 2 batteries in the car. One in the trunk and one in the engine compartment passengers side underneath the cabin filter. You may try searching to see how to replace the auxiliary battery. There have been several conversations on this topic in the past with vendors you may use to pick up another battery.

I've never heard of the auxiliary battery not allowing the car to start, tho...
Good luck.

Ok, I checked both batteries with the volt meter. Still says over 12V. Am I supposed to measure it unhooked from the car?

The dash says Braking Power Reduced. Start Car, but it won't start. I can feel the brake pedal push back when I depress it and hit the start button on the shifter knob.

how long does the vehicle sit? the front battery is for your sensatronic brakes, it only powers the brake hydraulic unit in case of main battery failure. so that u still have full braking power.you may need to take it to a dealership so that they can hook up a computer on it to see if ur network is staying awake(aka CAN system)

It just started this problem with the low battery warning about two weeks ago. Even if it would sit for 1 day, the warning would come on and you can hear the slowness in the cranking. But after a few miles of driving, the warning goes away. This passed weekend I left teh car sitting for two days and by that time, there was not enough juice to start it.

It could be a quiescent current issue but if the car does not start when the (main) battery voltage is at above 12 volts, there must be something else wrong (too).

Did you test them after a drive?? If you did wait, test them after a day or so...

Just to make sure check batteries when cold with voltmeter to try and replicate the conditions

NOTE: you can have 12 V and the car still have a bad battery.

You must check the voltage when cranking. IF the voltage drops below 10 V your battery is loosing reserve capacity. Everything described indicates battery failure. I replaced my battery with one from Carquest. They have a European direct fit replacement battery.

lol thats the fancy word they like us to use for parasitic draw. But i agree that it sounds like you have a bad battery, checking voltage does not do much it should be load tested. And the auxiliary battery powers much more than just the sbc unit in the car when the vehicle is off.
