Hey Ash! Very Nice Car but Nicer Parents!!!

I like the AMG twin 5 spoke wheels myself... see first pix below...

I'm 100% with Greg... his wheels looks correct and proper for the car... but don't go over 18's unless you only drive on glassy smooth streets, as the potholes will bend/destroy the taller rims in short time.
Hopefully, you do not live or drive in New York!

As for chrome... it's up to you if you want more Bling or not. Chrome will stand out, but is much easier to keep clean than the standard painted silver wheel.

There are newer AMG style wheels available but they look like Rotating Starfish hanging onto the tire! I don't like them (see second pix)... also the one's with a lot of spokes will take too long to clean for a busy girl like you (spend more time enjoying the drive, then cleaning the wheels!).

Oh, don't mount any tire except for the new Michelin MXV4 Primacy which has an improved wear factor of 600 for long life and a very quiet smooth ride.

The COMBO will be pricey but maybe you can get the AMG wheels used if you are not in a big hurry and the Michelin's new from Costco?

Say, maybe your parents can give you an early Birthday/Christmas present?

Good Luck.. Mike

Ok everyone- what do you think? first picture or second picture??

thanks!!
Hi, ash.

The first ones (your pic that you said you like) are the ones I have on my 210, originally marketed solely for the E500 211, they later went onto the E350. I think they're classy and sporty, as opposed to your stock ones which are just classy. They are 17" which is a little smaller profile tire and looks really good, too.

I also like the second ones, but personally they are too "busy" for me and a bit stuffy looking. Plus I like clean wheels and those would be a royal pain to clean.

That said, PLEASE don't be persuaded by ANYONE as to the rims YOU should want. There are lots of people who have chrome rims; IMHO they look awful on the Brilliant Silver or Desert Silver colors, but the right ones look great on the solid color cars and particularly the black ones. If you want chrome, get them, if you're trying to avoid the "Bling" look then simply don't get big ones or really oddball things. The classic AMG medium and thin-spoke wheels in chrome would look great, but the AMG wheels always cost more.

Last thought on chrome: they are indeed easier to clean, but if you curb them they are really ugly and then the chrome starts to flake. The silver wheels are really painted, and if you curb them (not badly but just normal) they can be repaired fairly easily.

I'm attaching a few more pics, but not on the car, just of the wheels.

The first represents the AMG thin spoke (true AMG say it right on the spoke).

The second is a C class sport wheel that was in 17", which I've seen on the 211 and looks pretty good. Wouldn't be my first choice but I'm tossing it out there in case it does anything for you. They are pretty cheap and easy to find.

The third is the Appearance wheel that I think is just ghastly.

The fourth and fifth are two varieties of the AMG medium spoke in chrome and silver. (The silver ones are actually monoblock IIIs IIRC.)

And I'm with Unitfreebie, the first ones he posted look very good on the 211 (but not really the 210); the second one he doesn't like is similar to the E63 wheel and it looks sharp on that car.

Bottom line, though, is that wheels are an intensely personal decision. Find styles you like, if they are MB wheels then you're staying with a quality product, if not work with a trusted vendor like Tire Rack to be sure you get good wheels. I'd strongly urge you to avoid ebay unless you are just buying OEM MB wheels (and there are lots on there) because lots of the aftermarket stuff on ebay is just not that good and you'll be dealing with a vendor who just wants your money and won't care if you have balance or fitment problems.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Mike and Greg!
Thank you guys so much for your replies/opinions/tips! I seriously appreciate it!!!!!

I def. crossed the 2nd picture (the ones with many spokes) that I posted off my choices... I havent thought about having to clean them all the time until you guys mentioned it... and I def. do not have TIME to do that.

Mike- I liiike the AMG 5 twin spoke wheels! what is it? it looks like its in between of chrome and silver painted?? (How much is it? And what if I want to get used ones, where do i go to? Ebay?) Oh and thanks for the tip on the Michelin tires... Ill def. keep it in mind!

Greg-
You're right... apperance wheels are hideous!! I didnt like those wheels you posted... only the 2nd picture the C class wheels but not for my car, though.
and I ll def. be sure to get the wheels that I like.
P.S. I dont know if I still want chrome rims because I havent really seen ones that I would LIKE for my MB. I just like 5 spokes ones but i havent really seen any chrome wheels with 5 spokes. MB have chrome 5 wheels rims? Can you give me the link to the website where I can check out for more of MB wheels?

Hello Ash,

I just replaced the wife's wheels with the second set of AMG wheels posted above (the silver with gray). They look awesome on the car! Nice contrast, still classy but sporty.

Lightbulb AMG Type IV Wheels

Hi Ash,

Here's a website that's good for info on the AMG wheels... Mercedes AMG BMW alloy wheels & tyres, UK wheel alloys

Click on the AMG box and then on your car E-class W211...

I was wrong on the name of the first AMG wheel pix I had posted: The correct name is AMG IV, not AMG Twin 5-Spoke which is slightly different as you can see in the website. I believe Greg's pix shows the AMG III wheel.

Spent some time, like an hour, on this site and you'll learn a lot about AMG wheels. The prices are given in British Pounds that includes a 15% VAT tax; so by deducting 15%, then increasing the result by 50% gives the approximate US dollar price. These prices are retail but look around a used set from owners who have changed wheels for some reason or another.

For you car, the W211 chassis, there are two AMG IV's that are priced the same and have identical styling but different widths and finish color. My guess is that the larger width is an update which also comes in Titanium Silver besides the normal Sterling Silver color. Most US cars have the updated wider width wheels in Titanium Silver color paint.

The AMG IV wheel style has been widely copied by BMW down to the Toyota Scion Tc.

Also the AMG IV wheel for the W211 starts at 18" size, which means the Michelin MXV4 Primacy tires will not fit; instead, go for the Michelin Primacy HP tires. Click on the Tire selection button and you'll see the recommended tires. Notice that the wheels are staggered (wider rear wheels) that gives much better traction and handling but cannot be rotated every 5000 miles to equalize the wear pattern.

Just looking at the data, I don't think the same size AMG IV wheel can be put all around on the W211 to allow for tire rotation unless the wheel OFFSET (ETnn) is correct; otherwise, handling and safety will be negatively affected.

Also 18" tires are more costly due to the lower profile and increased performance, thus the setup that Greg suggested is the way to go with respect to tire wear, safety, performance and cost effectiveness.

The W208 chassis has more wheel selection as the AMG IV starts at 17" size and can be directly interchanged with the CLK (W209) wheels.

Take your time looking around as that's half the fun... and your current wheels aren't too bad looking... maybe just change the lug bolts to chrome heads if you want to spoof things up a little?

Ahhhh, I am so sorry!! I was not able to get on the computer for a long time!!

I've been seeing AMG IV rims on MB cars lately and I love them! BAD NEWS FOR ME... my dad changed his mind and said he don't want to get me new rims due to the bad economy and he is being frugal with money. Oh well, I am grateful that I have a nice car! but argh, its frustarting, i was looking forward to get new rims for months!

BUT THANKS ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSES THOUGH! YALL ARE GREAT! ENJOY YOUR MERCEDES!!

Perfect Rims

I happen to like chrome on dark cars. I have Lowenhart LD5's on my E350 and they look and feel great....... can be pricey! 19x8.5 front / 19x 9.5 rear.
However, rims are like sun glasses...... they look good on you according to some and not so good by others. Therefore, it's about what you like!
