battery replacement (E500) (both batteries)

Well, I searched the forum and got some mixed results with regard to battery replacement. I have a 2005 E500.

1) Has anyone here changed both batteries themselves?

2) Anyone experienced any problems with aftermarket batteries....(Costco...etc...)?

3) Any special hints/tips for DIY battery changes?

For my 98 model I bought battery at Costco.
About $80 with 100 months warranty.
Sam's had better selection. with similar prices.

Make sure the battery's have the proper Ah ratings, typically 95Ah and 30Ah.

I strongly suggest locating an OEM or AGM battery. The OEM battery's are considered to be more of a deep cycle battery due to the high capacity they have. Cranking Amps aren't a consideration since this does not indicate the ability to supply high loads for anymore than 30 seconds. Ah relates to high amperage load for extended periods without dropping below minimum voltage limits (typically 10.5 volts).

Again, focus on Ah ratings and skip the marketing hype of Cold cranking amps.

Above all only consider an AGM battery for your car!

Just saw this post and going through the same thing. Did you change both battery yourself? How did it go?

I'm sure there must be a thread covering the battery change but the front/AUX/SBC/additional battery is easy if you just let the car enter sleep (ignition off long enough) to let the isolation relay disengage. The battery would have no load, just remove the ground cable first (for safety) and then the plus cable, reinstall in reverse order.

You have to be more careful with the rear battery, many owners have had their rear SAM blown.

DO what DieselBenz says, he has led me down the right road too many times. He knows about the car and if he doesnt he lets you know that too rather than telling you something that is not true.
