E350 Recall -WHINING NOISE!?

So I bought a new E350 in 2007. Right away I noticed a STRANGE Whining noise coming from the engine or transmission. I brought the car in and was told by the service manager that this was normal. So I have lived with the noise until today. I took the car in for service (SIRIUS SAT RADIO OUT FOR THE 3rd TIME) and service guy informed me of a RECALL regarding Whining noise from the engine/transmission?.
Any thoughts. I feel taken since I have lived with this for nearly 3 years and only now is Mercedes admitting there is a problem. Seems to me there should be some sort of compensation?.

The dealership service manager is at fault, not MBUSA. DTB P-B-13.22/01b DEC07 (initially released NOV 07) replaces the V-belt upper guide pulley with a modified part. AUG 08 MBUSA decided to upgrade the DTB to a Service Campaign thus having the work performed automatically upon next service visit.

Me too. I'm not sure exactly what noise it was suppose to fix, but I suspect it was that adjusting sound I hear occasionally when I open the door. The noise lasts 10 seconds or so, and sounds like someone adjusting their power seat.

WOW! your MBZ is an E 350 2007! I had this same "noise" whining on my MBZ E 320 2003!!! back in 2004 and it was the same part that had to be replaced. The dealer at first, told me the same story (this is normal). I could NOT drive the car any longer with that noise. I brought it to the dealer and said I will pick it up when you find out what the noise is. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR A $50,000 PLUS CAR. It was fixed / replaced at no cost. No trouble since the repair. And to think that they are having the same problem with the E class 2007 model.
