*Newbie* | 2009 E350 4MATIC AMG

Hello All-

I am a newbie to the forum and glad to be here. I just picked up a 2009 E350 4Matic with the factory AMG kit. They did incredible things to the 2009 and more people than you'd imagine actually think its an E63 (if only for a second). Obe of the best upgrades for the 2009 is the upgraded COMAND system, even a little more featured than my 2007 S550. There are not very many differences in the look from real AMG. From what I can tell,it's the quad pipes (i have 2 "AMG" pipes with great sound), the slits on the AMG bumpers (rest of the body looks identical), "AMG" seats, "AMG" written on gauges (sport package guages are pretty hot though)...and of course the engine!

But really...the car looks great. I inadvertently ordered the car without xenons so I am trying to upgrade on my own with a digital HID conversion kit @ 8000k. Luckily, on the 2009's the headlights look exactly like the bi-xenons, their just halogens in there. I'll let you know how it goes, I am afraid of errors (and voiding warranty).

I would also like to upgrade my front parking/standing lights. the size is listed as W5W but if I had gotten the factory bi-xenons, it would have been LED. Is there a plug in option for these lights to upgrade to a more OEM look? Links would be appreciated.

So far I have ordered:

HID conversion kit (8000k)
AMG one piece rear spoiler
AMG illuminated door sills (4x)
"AMG" rear license plate (chrome)
AMG full pedal set
Black metal front plate frame (i live in NJ, front plate is mandatory and the dealer literally drilled 6 holes directly into the AMG bumper for the front license plate bracket..GRRRRRRRR)
Chrome door lock pins
Completely debadged

Thinking about:

Tints (also illegal in NJ)

DVD in-motion (I cant find anyone who can reprogram the DVD player in the 2009 COMAND system to work while in motion...suggestions???)

Chrome headlight trim / behind door handles / mirrors
I'm afraid this will look cheezy...does anyone have pics, perhaps on a black w211. Opinion?

Also thinking about an "AMG" shift knob. All i can find online is a cheap looking knob, doesnt look like OEM to me. Any suggestions?

I am also desperately looking for information on al of the interior lights in the W211 including the foot lights. I'd like ot upgrade all interior lights to a crisp white. What size are these? Can I/Should I use LED's? Where can I fint the right replacement lights for the interior? Size?

Sorry for all the questions...still a newbie.

THANKS!!!

Don't go too crazy on this car. It is going to take a massive depreciation hit by this time next year when the all new 2010 E350 arrives.

How was the pricing on your 09? Did it seem that the dealers were giving competitive prices? Most folks are getting about $3,500 off from MSRP, which is coming from MB. Wondering if you did better than that. I've been debating about an 09 myself.

If you like the car, no reason you shouldn't mod it. How come you didn't order bi-xenons from the factory? Did you buy it off a dealer lot? Good luck with the car!

People here are really helpful. If you don't get replies right away, try the search function. There might be something here in an older post that might help.

Sorry forgot to mention I leased it. You wouldnt believe the deal I got. Paying $3400 down and $560 mo / 15000 miles/yr, 30 month lease. The only reason I got that deal though is because I also got a 2008 S550 PIII sport, a 2009 S550 Designo AMG and a SMART car in the past year from them...and countless others over the years.

But they are very aggressive on the leases right now and they threw in a ton of options in the 2009 as it is the end of model year. I will have the car for exactly 2.5 yrs, the 2010 will come out in about 13 months and I'll be ready to upgrade right when they've worked out the kinks and added nice AMG packages etc to the model line up (imagine getting a 2004 E320 vs the 2009 E350 sport...both W211 but the later years always have the better options and sleeker body styling and bigger engines. Also the E55 vs E63, huge difference!)

I inadvertently ordered the car without factory bi-xenons. I thougt, its a 2009 Mercedes how could it not have xenon standard? I was so excited about the car when I was ordering it that I misread the PII package to add just the directional function of xenons/fogs. Big mistake I know, also thought parktronic was included. You can imagine how pissed i was on delivery.

Anyway, began the "lease-mod" process. Its going to look pretty hot with the touches im adding. I look to keep it as factory as possible, inspired by the E63.

I will surely keep you posted. Oh, and I think I am painting all 4 calipers red. I also got white AMG caliper decals I think its going to look great. If not, their getting painted black or orig silver. Ill definitely post pics.

thanks all, this site is awesome!

Welcome aboard and congrats. Look for forward to seeing pics after your mods. If I were you, I would try to live without the red calipers and the chrome door trim.

Congrats. I would definitely ixnay the chrome trim idea for sure.

Also, the E63 isn't much of a performance increse over the 55 if much notably at all. Plus I'd rather have the E55 (more low end torque, and you can't beat a boosted V8, simple little dollars make big HP gains). Styling of the two's different bumpers, side skirts, etc. are simply preferance as well.

Also, the '09's play DVD's??!!

Sorry to go O/T, hehe.

That's a sweet looking car!! Welcome to the Board and Congrads on your purchase. You will love it, believe me. After driving a Mercedes it is really hard to drive anything else.

Quick question for you: Have you tried the new Comand out at all? What do you think of the new nav?

My lease is nearly up on my E350 and I'm wondering if the Nav upgrade along with the other toys are really worth it?

Yup, the 2009's have the upgraded COMAND system, which is also found on the new S Class and C Class, as well as the upcoming 2010 E Class. It plays DVD's while car is in park only. It switches to audio only DVD when any gear is selected and a message displays.

The new COMAND is one of the main reasons, aside from the incredible looking AMG rims/kit, that I got the car, knowing full well it was the last model year. Typically I would get the new model but just wait for it. My lease is timed in a way that i will be able to ge the new E Class body 18 months after its inital release. Just enough time to get out the kinks and update the body a bit. The 2009's also have built in bluetooth for the first time. It works very well.

As far as my mods, so far I have received the follwoing parts and am having everything installed at once next week:

-AMG rear trunk spoiler (1 piece, E63)
-HID conversion kit (errors are a big issue with the 2009's in particular, Ill let you know how it goes)
-Chrome seat adjust covers (pretty cool, ill take pics)
-Chrome A/C control and front vents covers (also pretty cool)
-AMG illunimated door sills on all 4 doors
-Chrome door lock pins
-Debaging rear except mercedes trunk symbol
-AMG chrome license plate
-AMG pedals / e brake / dead pedal

Next up:
Interior lighting makeover to compliment the AMG illuminated door sills. Im thinking a crisp white, maybe a touch of blue. The ambient overhead light will look great like that. The foot areas in the front and back also need to look crispier. The stock lights look yellow compared to most modern lights.

I've decided to hold off on the red brake calipers (although i think it will look great- I even bought the "AMG" brake decals in white) and also the CL style grille / hood ornament. Im going to wait a few months until I get bored with the current setup and need a change.
