I am a new owner and I love my 2008 E320. My husband maintains our vehicles but is not as knowledgeable of diesel engines.
I purchase my E320 "used", it arrived with 4,000 miles. Since I have owned it I have put about 1,000 miles on it. The other day I received a message that my A service is due in 30 days. I will only have about 5,500 to 6,000 miles. I assume the vehicle has been in service for almost a year, which is why I am getting the message.
I have read in this forum that it is not good to do a service too early, so I am wondering if I should wait longer or do what my car tells me to! Any and all advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You hit the 1 year limit on the oil change.
I would suggest given the low mileage to follow the guidance of the FSS system.
I would also suggest going to the dealer to allow them to go thru the car and perform any updates that may be needed.
When you take it in, ask them to provide an oil sample and send it in for analysis since this car is new to you. This will help you establish a wear trend on the motor and determine if you can extend your intervals to the 2 year 19,000 mile approval limits of the oils that carry MB229.5 and MB229.51.
MBUSA insists on reducing oil service intervals to 1 year 13,000 after getting sued for dealers non-use of approved oils, we are still suffering for their stupidity.
Free oil sample kits Blackstone Laboratories and then you pay for the testing when you send it in.

Thanks for the advice and I am leaning more and more towards going to the local MB dealer. I worked hard to get the money to buy this car so I want to take care of it right. Does anyone care to share what it cost them to take their E320 (diesel engine) in for service A? I want to have a general idea of what it should cost since I have not dealt with this dealer in the past. Thank you.
What the service will cost you depends greatly on where you're located. The prices for a simple oil change can vary from $85 (Harrisburg, Pa) to over $200 (major city - Washington DC, etc).
