Has anyone purchased wheels for w211 4MATIC's with TPMS? I was wondering if im able to buy offset wheels, like the E55, or if they all have to be the same exact size. I have a 4MATIC with TPMS and i wanted to know what i need to look into when purchasing rims/wheels. Thanks.
As far As I understand ....the 4matic will ONLY work with a certain wheel, 17in ...I believe, AMG uses 18 and staggered are not an option ...
I have a friend who has a 2006 E350 and put AMG wheels on aftre about 200+ miles his
tranny coded ... he took the wheels off and put the orignals back on so that the warranty would cover the cost ...It was a royal pain for him... needless to say he sold the Monoblocks (18) staggered set he had ....
Get the rim guide from your service dept that shows what wheels will be supported ...
Those things can be pretty complicated, so I can only say what I learned about the systems over the years.
4-Matic has traction control on all wheels. Difference in wheels speeds will trigger the system, what usually starts with cruise control dropping off.
Since getting 2 different tires turning at the same speeds is almost impossible, therefore staggered wheels are limited to 2 WD most of the time. Changing all 4 wheels to different size shouldn't make traction control problems as long as they don't rub anything. In ML section you will find posts, where members put wheels way bigger than OEM, but having all 4 the same don't cost problems.
