That sounds really really high to me. Especially for an
'08 300. People are getting much better deals than that in the U.S right now. Maybe it's the whole Economy thing.

Local dealer just quoted me $820/mo for an in-stock new [not demo] '08 E300 4matic with nav and xenon, 36 months, $0 down, 18k per year allowed
Just trying to figure out if I should pull the trigger- sounds like a reasonable price- any comments would be appreciated
That's actually not a bad deal. (Note to US friends - our cars are ridiculously more expensive whether bought or leased). I leased the same car (I found a demo so saved the freight etc.) in June for $778/month pre-tax. The i.r. was 1.9 I believe and the residual was 61%. I also was able to negotiate a discount of $3500. Those numbers were very good for an '08 that late in the model year. I came out of a 5-series which to replace would have been over $200/month more. On top of the lease deal, M-B paid the first 2 lease payments (well, $1400 actually) and paid out my last month on the BMW.
My advice - negotiate hard for minimum $3500 discount; ask if they have demo's - mine had only 2500 km on it so the difference is no big deal. If you're dealing with a Toronto dealer, they have access to all the stores in the GTA so have good access.
Long answer to your question - yes it's a good deal, but after you negotiate it can get better.

I just noticed you're Waterdown. I'm Burlington, but bought from M-B Mississauga. The sales guy there was very strong with follow up, and being corporate stores, they had access to more vehicles, hence the demo availability. (PM me if you'd like the contact info.) On a side note, I'm curious - where do you get your SL serviced?
There is a great article at cars dot com about numbers. See what they all are and don't let them mix them together. Drill down till you find the actual price being offered, the value of your trade and then the amount to be financed. What is the actual lease rate? What is the buyout option? What is the penalty for spinning the odometer too much? You will have to find out if the (price offered - trade) is competitive. Don't grind them too much if they are close but a bit high. If you do choose them, make damn sure you tell them that you could have saved a few bucks by going elsewhere but chose to keep your business local. This investment in brownie points could save you huge down the road in service favours.
@K-A FWIW, some older US MB's couldn't be imported to Canada as the bumper standards are different. I _think_ that has been standardized.

Any pre-owned M-B can be imported to Canada but require some level of modifications, which MUST be done at an M-B dealer. This included re-working bumpers to meet Cdn crash stds. The stds have now been harmonized so this step is no longer required. DRL's must be added, the the speedo must show km/h or be modified. I brought my SL500 in last November and spent $3K to get the required mods done.
As for the new E - absolutely do your homework. M-B Cda is offering $8K off a self-financed purchase or 1.5% lease rates. I don't know the current residual but it was 61% on the E300 2 months ago. It may (?) be prudent to wait for the '09's, though the i.r. won't likely be as good. Whatever you do, it's a very nice car and I'm certain you'll enjoy it.
and the sales rep said, oooops, my bad, rate is actually $934/mo, had a previous quote on my screen that showed an $8000 fleet discount, etc, etc
I believe he made an honest mistake but it still turned me off- going to wait for the '09's or the spring demo clearout- I understand the '09's will all be Avant Guarde editions, fully loaded. My last two sedans were the last model year for that series and they were great- most people didn't realize they were already a generation old, hats off to MB for their timeless designs
Might also do the import thing although that will be a bigger upfront hit- no financing available
In terms of getting my SL serviced- I still go to Garden Motorcar for the scheduled service as I plan on selling it some day and want to be able to produce a full record- the car only has 85 km on it so spending a grand once a year isn't too bad. I get the local garage, Jay's Auto, to service things like brakes [they lightly machined all rotors, saved me a bundle] and other light service
