You never know. In search for good deals I run several times into 2 years old cars (usually BMW or MB) with 150,000 miles.
I was always tempted to ask sellers what kind of trafficking they have been into?

I have a Mityvac fluid extractor that I use on my 560SL and Dodge truck.
My intent is to use MB spec oil. Right now, I am an AMSOIL user but I will check to see if it fills the MB spec. If not, I will use the right stuff.
I agree that this car requires dealer intervention for anything the least bit complicated. How I wish she would have been satified with a good 123 diesel. The car came from the dealer with Mobile 1 and I guess I feel competent enough to change oil. Taking it to the dealer for routine things like that simply ties up the car for a day, requires us to make two round trips in a second car and costs far more than is reasonable.
I have always done a couple of early oil changes on new cars to assist in flushing out break-in particulates. With all due repect, to suggest one can damage an engine by changing oil too soon is absurd.

Than you never know which side is more over the line.
New oils with overdose of chemicals do eat engines prematurely, but experience shows, that no matter if you change oil every 3000, or 140,000 (met guy like that) it doesn't affect engine life to the extend average owner is going to notice.
Modern gas engines last for over 300,000 miles, while diesels have potential for over a million. Even taxi cabs run by 3 drivers have hard time to do it before corrosion eats the body.
Than you will find my dispute with other member here, where he swears that new cdi engines run at such extreme, that you have to import the oils for them from Mars, since no US automotive stories carry them.
Fell free to gain your own experience.
There's a Mobil1 sticker in my engine compartment and it's from the factory. I haven't read that part of the manual yet but I'm assuming I simply use Mobil 1 (fully synthetic) oil.
For the Amsoil user, unless they've changed their policy, they will cover your engine if the manufacturer tries to deny you warranty coverage because you used Amsoil.
