I just sat here and did some research on this topic, but I did not find the answer I am looking for.
Well I was replacing my radiator, disconnected all the lines, Including the transmission lines. For some stupid reason the car was started, and 10 seconds later I had a big pool of oil underneath the car..
Great, I thought. Not only I have to replace my power steering fluid, Antifreeze, I have to replace my ATF.. so I cleaned the mess and call it a day.. I was thinking of washing out the driveway the following day. When I came to the car the next day, all of the ATF evaporated... That was interesting..
So now I am looking to change the ATF becasue half of it was on my driveway. I cant find a DIY on this.. Can anyone point me in the correct direction?
I will go to the dealer later today and get some ATF as well as a new filter and a dipstick... What else should I do when I am down there?
I didn't get to W211 (yet) but you'll find lot of discussion on W210 section as well general. The trick with the tab is break off the top, push it down and catch for reuse.
Dipstick are just piece of cable, or flat steel that sell for like $40. Finding the marks measurements on the net, I marked piece of 1/4" steel cable that was "just laying in my garage" for the job.
When I flushed the transmission on my older MB, I had pretty long saturation process, that took over 50 miles before the level stabilized with 3 additions between.
anyone else? Where is the fill hole? What do I use to fill the transmission? Is there a pump of some sort?
I use a funnel with a piece of flexible pipe attached to fill the transmission through the dipstick tube of the transmission. This is possible to do on the 5 speed 722.6 transmission. For those of you who have the 7 speed transmission, I don't know how it is done since that transmission does not have a dipstick tube.
Did your car come with a Valeo radiator and is that why you are replacing the radiator?

The fill is at the center of the engine at the firewall below and behind the air intake on the manifold. There is a semi rectangular cap with a tap on top. Break off the tap push the pin down and catch it. Then you can remove the cover to the fill line. Don't confuse the transmission fill tube with the oil tube and put transmission oil in the engine. If in doubt go under the transmission and trace the line. One with the round cap is the OIL fill. The rectangle with the tab is the tranny. AND DON"T ASK HOW I KNOW.
The pan is easily removed, just use only MB parts. The fluid in the att. is the upgrade fluid but is approved for the E500 auto tranny.
You will need a dipstick (MB tool) and you can usually find one on ebay for $30 or so. Best of luck. I may find my pics later. I did this job and took a full series of photos. vettdvr
I did this on Friday before the dealer closed and everything went smooth. Level is nice, shifts like new. I will check the level today just to make sure It didnt go down.
BTW the Dipstick was $39. Another interesting thing is that they do not discount the dipstick.. (I purchased through a shop. they usually get a 20% discount)

Glad it worked otu for you. My luck our Diesel Excursion had the transmission go out while returning from Atlanta. We were returning home to prepare our home for Gustof which is headed our way. So now the truck with dead transmission is in the drive, House is almost ready for the storm. but hopefully it doesn't flood "again after Katrina".
Planned to tow the boat to safety but with truck out the boat will just have to float. About now I am ready to
