cant get my belt off help!

hey guys i need to swap out the belt on my 03 e500 and i cant get the tensioner to budge. i went to sears and got the tamper proof star bits and i have a serpintine belt too thats like a long thin breaker bar and i still cant get it to work. what am i doing wrong? i belive i have the old style tensioner with the star bit in the middle of the tensioner pulley. thanks

Did the bit you got work or not?

It's TORX, BTW--nothing is called "star."

If the bolt hed is 6-lobed, it's normal torx.

If it's 5-lobe, you'll have a little more trouble finding it (and not at Sears)

The Mono belt tensioner should have a hex casted in the Mono belt tensioner housing..Thats what is used to release the tensioner..helps if you have a pin to hold it in the released position
