I have a 2004 E 320 T CDI Avantgarde. A few weeks ago I recieved this error message (1 Malfunction => Hdlmp cornering) in the display. It comes and goes, but now it seems more constant.
I took the car to a MB Garage, and the did a diagnostic search. The result was a big "F", and they told me that I have to replace the whole headlight. It`s not possible to reset the error message, so I get reminded on it every day. Neither is it poosible to go around the error, so my left headlight is set in the lowest possition, it lighten up just in front of the car.
Do any of you have some experience whit this. Do I really have to replace the whole headlight, or is it possible to repair this in a less expensive way? A new headlight and labor will cost me apx 1800 Euro.
Apreciate all kind of help!
(hope you understand what i`m writing, my english isn`t very good)

My 2004 E200 kompressor had a similar cornering mallfunction a couple of months ago (@ 95 000 km) and I was also told that the whole light unit needs to be replaced. The one remaing light also did not function as usuall due to this problem. Fortunately we have maintenance contracts included in the retail price of all Mercedes Benzes sold in South Africa (called Mobility Plan and ussually covers maintenenace items or defects up to 120 000 km or 6 years), which ensured that the unit got replaced at R 16 000 (approx € 1400 without labour), at the insurer's cost.
The cost is indeed exessive, if you ask me, since it only cost R 10 500 for the "cornering light" upgrade when you buy a new Merc without bi-xenon cornering lights.
After the repair the other light operated normally again.
