OK... ive searched high and low for the answer cannot find it. Soooo my lease ended on my '05 E320 4-matic a few months ago, I had the appearance package and Harman Kardon, and all that great stuff. When my lease ended, I ended up picking up a '03 C240 to get around, and well let's just say I've been underwhelmed with everything, don't get me wrong its a great car...but I get scared when I try and pass people when I'm merging because it really lacks power. Anyway back on point, so I'm thinking of trading it in (HELLO NEGATIVE EQUITY!!) for a '03 E500 Sport. From what I see from the dealer website and remarks, it DOES indeed have Harman Kardon however not the nav size screen from my '05 e320(my e320 didn't have nav just the large screen, apparently everyone got the big screen for 05+). My question for you all is why is it my 05 e320 with harman kardon had a perforated grill for the center dash, and this '03 e500 with harman kardon just has the horizontal slats??? I'm hoping this '03 e500 i plan to pick up has just as good as a harman kardon system as the '05 i had??? your thoughts ??

Technically ’05 211 incorporates a newer 8-channel AGW (amplifier) over 7.1 for ’03. In addition, for safety MB replaced the plastic slat centerfill to lesson windshield reflection.

I would love to retrofit the perforated grill and get rid of the plastic slats on my early build 211. The reflections are not the issue to me. The plastic grille touches the center fill speaker on the HK system and makes the center fill speaker buzz and distort constantly.
Can the plastic slats be replaced with the perforated metal?
