Electrical problems in my '98E 320 4-matic wagon

I have been having lots of electrical problems with my wagon that my mechanic can't seem to figure out. Randomly the driver window/seat adjustment/rearview mirror will become inoperative. After a day or so the passenger side will go and eventually the rear windows will stop working. Sometimes the driver side and passenger go at the same time sometimes not. Eventually after a week or so it all starts working again just fine. Then several months down the road wham it stops working. The keyless entry lock stops working as well during this time. My mechanic said it is not the window switches, not a fuse, and not anything to do with replacing the door assembly. He went one time to replace the driver side and it all started working. This last round has proven to show new issues. Now in addition to the above items not working it also includes, wipers/blinkers/sunroof/and interior lock button. The emergency blinker still works. Radio still works. Also believe that the climate control on the AC is not working well. I have heard one person suggest that it is a power surge from someone holding the key to long when starting the car and that a Control/ALt/Delete does the trick. This has helped in the past but nothing long term. Someone today suggested that it could be the Electronic Ignition Lock Control Module. Any information on any of these working to fix this problem?

For this car you would get more help from the W210 section.

Exclamation Too many problems...

With that many problems I would check out the electrical ground system... probably not loose, but corroded ... was the car in a flood?

Good Luck...

I agree that you would get more help on the 210 thread . Did you get the codes pulled in the car this might give you some insight into your problems . It could be a problem with in the CAN system , there is a bus bar in each foot well ,could be corrosion on them and this is blocking CAN signals , it could also be bad earths , there is an earthing point under each front seat with several wires grounded there
