Hello. I just purchased a 'new-to-me' previously-owned 2005 E320 Wagon.
I very much like the car, but I have a question for which I cannot find the answer in the Owner's Library; too many books to be called Owner's Manual.
Anyway, back to my question, when folding down the rear seat, the front passenger seat backrest tilt goes forward, more upright. The driver's seat does not tilt forward, just the passenger seat. To me it does not matter, but my wife likes the seat backrest to be tilted back. She gets rather annoyed at this behavior. Is this normal and is there anyway to over-ride this?
The fact that your driver's seatback does not tilt forward when folding the rear seat could mean that it's already in a position where it will not interfere with the rear seat or there is something wrong with the tilt feature.

Neil, you are correct about the driver's seat, I'm usually the driver, especially if ever the rear seats are folded. I like to sit more up-right, therefore, it does not need to go more up-right. Thanks.
Pete
My '04 Wagon has the same function ... "GF91.29-P-2010T Collision-avoiding seat adjustment function" to be precise. It states that "If the rear-seat backrest on the passenger side is unlocked ... the seat fore/aft adjustment for the front passenger seat is moved to the 95% position (150mm from front stop".
I have heard that complaints about this function has resulted in a disable sequence that can be performed by the dealer. My dealer doesn't know about this. Can anyone out there point us in the right direction?
I don't have access to DAS at the moment but you might ask your dealer to have a look at the version coding options for the N32/2 control unit. It should be straightforward if there is a setting once the correct control unit is found.
I had a look at these settings, my interpretation is that on the seat control unit version that has this collision-avoiding seat adjustment function, it is possible to version code several details.
The actual distance from the rear seat can be programmed within a specified range. The seat can be coded to move automatically to the safe distance from the rear seats when rear seats are folded and the seat adjustment can be restricted to this range.
The above should be the default setting for US cars (probably the same for Canadian cars). Dealers may not want to code the car against the advice for the US market. But SDS does allow turning off the seat adjustment range limitation and (separately) the automatic safe position adjustment.
I would consider the combination of automatic adjustment but no adjustment limitation the best. The seat would then automatically adjust to a safe distance allowing rear seats to be folded without collision. But if the passenger then wanted to move the seat backwards, it would go as far as there is free room. One should be careful when adjusting the seat then to avoid the adjustment motor overloading if the front seat collides with the rear seat.
Thanks for the info....I guess I'll have a chat with my dealer.
