I just recently order a aftermarket custom Grill for my E-500. I also want to change my Fatory Mercedes Hood Emblem to a Mercedes Flat hood emblem. Is making the change difficult? It looks pretty easy but has anyone done this before and is there any special trick to it??? Vince
There are lots of ways to do this and lots of posts on it. You can buy a kit on e-bay (something in the $25 range I think), which is very popular, and there's also a guy that makes ones that fit in the same dished area on the hood for around $90 or so, they're very nice but pricey.
Or if you're creative you can buy the regular flat badge on-line and play with making your own mounting hardware, which is what I did, total cost was about $10 if memory serves.
If you do a search you'll find dozens of posts with pictures, etc.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Thanks for the info. I have done quit a bit of research and changing the grill looks pretty easy (just a few screws) But looking under the hood it looks a little intimidating in regards toi chaning the emblem. I guess I am wondering does it take special tools? or is it something that changes very easily and I shouldn't be concerned.........? I actually ordered the Flat hood emblem from Ebay and should be getting it this week. I guess I just don't want to get in too deep with making the change on the hood. I will take your advise and check thru past posts. Thanks again for the response...Its greatly appreciated. Vince

Hi, Vince.
Removing the stock hood star is really simple. Just raise the hood and then from the underside, reach up and grab the bottom, then turn it. I think it's just a quarter-turn, then it lifts out from the top. Reverse the procedure to reinstall, if you get tired of the flat badge. The e-bay kit comes with all the hardware you'll need so that's an easy way to go. I was happy I did mine by myself, but the time I spent coming up with an original solution was for my own benefit.
Went home yesterday and you were right on the Money. It Star popped right out in just 3 seconds. I installed the new flat hood emblem and I was done in less then a minute, it came out nice. I will take your advise and keep the 3 point star emblem close incase I change my mine. Again, Thank you my friend. I appreciate the help. be well. Vince
I bought a flat hood emblem from mercedes today, but unfortuantly i found its a little bigger than i expected, i was just wondering what was the custom mount you thought of?

Hi, you can go to Lowes and get a large washer (I am over in Baghdad right now but I I know that you want it to be larger than the engine side hole in the hood. And then you WILL need to get a metric screw...don't make the mistake that I did for my wife and trying like 20 smaller washers and a wing nut!
I bought a flat white star OEM hood emblem to replace the tri-star. Wife did not like it. So if you guys want, I will sell to first person who contacts me. $80 with shipping. Funds need to be sent via PayPal. Take 5 min to revmove/install. Paid $120. Have photos if you want.
