I bought an '03 E500 Sport used about 10 months ago. I soon after put on aftermarket rims and have been going through the insides every 3000 miles or so and its killing me!!! I've gone through 2-3 alignments and the dealer tells me they can't properly align the wheels because they are not OEM. Anyone have any thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

Tire wear in the INSIDE is from Negative Camber....

Locate a High End Tire shop to do a Alignment

Install the OE MB (REPAIR Bolts) on the front you will need 4 repair bolts

The rear is Not adjustable unless you Install a Rear camber kit KMAC or rear adjustable camber bars

I had a similar problem 5K outof brand new rears! Found a good alignment shop and now have 10K on new rears and they look like they can go at least another 15K! If the dealer cannot do it, find another place, and have them show you the results from the computer, mine showed out-of-spec (red) numbers before the alignment, and all green numbers (within spec) after, so you can be sure it was done correctly. Also, if your aftermarket wheels were used, they could be out of round or bent. I had a bad wheel (vertically bent) on a previuos car, and the alignment shop found that was a problem.

And Mark C is right, get the bolts from the dealer before going to the aligment shop, it will save you time and the agravation of them not being able to do it there and then.

Cheers

Everyone in town tells me the only place that can align my car is the dealer. I even went to a MB specialist that only works on MB and he says he can't do it. If anyone knows of a good place in FLA...Miami, Tampa, Orlando...PLEASE let me know...it will be worth the drive. Ian at the MB dealer said he is going to take a look at the rear camber at the end of the month. The wear is definitely on just the inside and on the back tires.

Part of the problem may be rim issue too. I have had them RF balanced at a good shop and they still have a slight vibration around 80-120. No problem around town, just at higher speed

Had same problem with ALL my MB's bought after '03. Indy shop aligned to compensate for wider tires and now get 20k per tire. Don't go to MB service center, they act like robots and are told to stick to the oem specs.

Also found Mich's get the best wear results. Stay away from soft, gummy tires.

I get a vibration at 75-85 ... turned out to be the driveline.

Since no one else asked, could you say what the size including offset the rims are and what the tire sizes are?
