I purchased a Hengst E17H D57 oil filter for my CDI. Mercedes recommends the use of a fleece oil filter for the lengthy oil change intervals. Nowhere on the package of this filter is fleece mentioned and upon inspection this filter appears to be paper. Does anyone know if this a fleece filter?
What does the fleece filter look like? How much should it cost? I paid about $14 for this one on the net. Thanks

Hi, the original MB oil filter to me looks like "any good quality filter", I'm not an expert and would not recognize if the original is a "fleece filter" and another one isn't. I mean, one would probably need to be an expert to recognice the difference (while a significant performance difference could still exist).
I'm not familiar with the filter brand you mentioned, perhaps it is as good as the original MB part but myself I wouldn't use any other oil filter than an MB original one, the original should not cost a lot more and you don't need to change the oil/the filter so often (although I understood that "assyst advice" oil change is not used in the US, but even then).
Also the local dealer often helps me getting a lower cost filter when first giving me a shorter one, intended for smaller CDIs, and then gives me the correct, more expensive one, without me having to pay extra ;-)

RE: Hengst Oil Filter for E320CDI
Hey Woochow,
Check out some of the online MB part suppliers because most of them have pictures of parts. The fleece filter has a pure white element as opposed to the usual brownish, paper element.
Thanks. It has become apparent that the fleece filter is for the gasoline p;owered vehicles whereas the CDI has a paper element. I found it shocking that the dealers I contacted were clueless about the media of the filter. A call to MBNA in New Jersey was equally frustrating. The tech person asked me if I cut open the element. I said why would I cut up a new oil filter? It wouldn't be of much use? He replied that was the only way to determine if the media was paper or fleece. I hung up. Clueless[:(!]
