Considering swapping the REAR brakes from my 02 W210 E55 with the rears from a CL55 ( AMG 4 Pots calipers ) . Has anyone done that ? I know the rotors/ calipers etc are different, but what is involved in swapping? Custom Bracket for the caliper? I know the rotors are the same thickness between the two cars but they are the same thickness at 28mm....I also know that the AMG Calipers are Brembos, are they same as the Brembo calipers offered by the GT Kits ? Meaning the same weight or the AMG are heavier? Any guidance or help from the experts will be greatly appreciated.

My opinion, just stick with what comes from the factory.

I use to think the same but not after I drove a friends car with Brembos. I am actually surprised that you didnt feel that when you took your car to the track recently. Yes the AMG brakes are great but not when they heat up and after experimenting with different pads and so forth, they still cant get that pedal feel the Brembos have. I have already planned my front upgrade, the rears are not as important as the fronts, but thats the reason why I want to do it on a budget hence the CL55 Calipers.

Its just that for the power that the car puts to the ground from the factory, i think the stock brakes perform the way they should. Of course if you brake a lot of times in a row at high speeds, you're gonna get the normal brake fade. If you're planning on running more power like a SC then yes, you need bigger brakes. Plus they look much better! Thats just my opinion.
While back I found a set of W211 AMG brake set from ebay and I was going to buy it but after doing some research i found out it required drilling out the stock caliper brackets but I'm sure it required more modification than that so I wasn't going to take any chance getting stuck with something I can't make fit or spend more money making them fit. The Brembo GT cost alittle more but I know for sure it will fit perfect, I'm glad I went with the Brembo GT kit.
Damn! these Brembo are awesome! night and day compared to stock. I can just tap my brake paddle and I can send my passenger plunging foward. If I nail the brake paddle hard I could probably sent them throught the windshield to there death teach them to buckle up when they get in my car
Peter thanks for chiming in, I agree .. I drove a W210 with Brembos and as good as our OEM brakes are, there are no match for the pedal feel of the brembo...I remember a Porsche buddy of mine telling me that his favorite aspect of his car was the brakes....it makes sense.
