My wife used my 2001 E-320 while I was on vacation and I noticed the after arming the alarm it goes off without any disturbance to the car. She said that she had heard an alarm over the past few days but didn't relate it to our car. I opened and closed all the doors, hood & trunk and it still went off after about 15 minutes. At this time I disabled it on the inside. The standing voltage is 12.65 volts. No fault display came up on the dash when I turned it on. Has this happened to anyone else and what should I do next.

My 1999 E430's factory alarm goes off every day when the sun warms the car in the parking lot at work. It repeats several times - flashing the lights for a minute or two then resetting. Usually it happens in the hottest part of the day, although I have seen it happen in the garage in the evening when it's cooling down. I say "seen", because the siren doesn't sound, but the lights flash. I tried disconnecting the tow-away sensor to see if it was the cause, but that didn't make any difference.
I'm not sure if I can read Body or Chassis codes with my ELM327 OBD scan tool through the ODB port or not, but there are supposed to be some trouble codes that show what triggered the alarm.
At this point I've explained to everyone at work that the flashing lights are merely a decorative feature and that it's cheaper to ignore it than get it diagnosed. At least the siren isn't sounding (although I would have taken the 4-pound hammer to it by now if it was).
