Headlamp Headaches
Does anyone know where to get a nice set of projector HID headlamps for my 1998 E430? I purchased a set from EBay and I deeply regret it! The rubber seal around the unit does not fit and the hold points are different from the MB OEM rubber so I can't use it. Additionally they have moisture in them and one of the chrome rings around the lens has come loose and is rattling around the unit. Needless to say they are coming off of the car tonight after work... I really like the look but they are not the quality I desire for my Benz.
So...
Has anyone found a quality unit and where do I get a set?
I have attached a couple photos... in the dark one you can see the ring that came off...

Sure you didn't buy one for 00-02?? mounting point are different between them 96-99 & 00-02.
I bought my from these guy and they fit very well just like OEM. They are Depo brand, DOT approve etc.etc.
I really like the look of those, how would you compare the light pattern and color to OEM W211 HIDs? How difficult is the installation? I too have an 02 E55, and am considering this little mod.
I had Depo Euro lights on my W126 and they seemed to be very good quality, not easy to tell from OEM.

I like them alot. Very good quality and fit perfect. Only thing I hate is taking off the bumper to install them.
I'll post some pictures of the light pattern tonight.
Remove the bumper....ouch...I didn't realize there'd be so much work involved. Certainly something I can't do myself...did you do it or take it to a shop?

Yup, PITA to remove the bumper and time consuming. I was able to remove it and swap out the headlight in about 2 hour, worth the effort. Very happy with the light.
Those lights look really good. What bulbs are in your inboard lights and the fog lights?
Fog light are H1 or H3 6000K don't remember which one, i think they both fit with litttle modification & city light (inboard) are Ultra white Xenon 194 wedge type bulbs.

On your 1998 you dont have to remove the bumper to change the headlights only 00-02 cars do. Just make sure you get the right year headlights as Peter said.
My car is an 02, so I would need the facelift lighting and the work it entails. I might ask my indy mechanic what he'd charge for such a job...I lack the space and tools to do it myself.
Does the headlamp kit come with any bulbs? I live not far from you, Peter, so if another E55 shows up in front of your place sans bumper and lights, you'll know who it is :P
