The airconditioning on my E55 AMG is not blowing cold now. Everything works fine on the climate control. What could this be? Can we just add freon like on my W140? Can a regular mechanic fix it rather than going to the Mercedes dealer?

If you're low on freon, yes. if you hear a hissing sound coming from your middle vents, then you're low. if not, check for codes and values. see how to section for steps. i just added a can and half to mine last week and all's well again.

Freon is R-12 and you have to have a special license to buy it. Your car probably needs R-134a. Re-gassing is the same as adding refrigerant to your AC system. Sorry, I do not know how to add it but you can search for it or try somewhere like MercedesShop - Mercedes Benz Parts and Technical Information
