Well, as the thread states, I have an itch I need to scratch. As much as I hate to do this, check out my posting in the classifieds. This car is a garage queen, paint is near perfect (a couple of minor stone chips)

Have you checked the prices of 03-04 SL55's lately? Low mileage examples on ebay are in the high to mid 40's...I think for everyday driving...a MUCH more comfortable vehicle and just as fast. If you can hold on for 6-12 months...you'll be able to get one fo these gems in the 30's....NOW THAT'S A BARGAIN...what were they, $140,000 new?
I do love the Sl55s, but I really miss having a manual trans. Partner that with turbos and AWD, and you have a perfect vehicle IMHO. Plus I have a DD (96 4Runner 4x4) that has an auto trans that I can take for my LA traffic days... And I can park it on the street and not care.
Okay, you know what you want....make sure you get a 993 turbo...they seem to hold value A LOT better than the 996
I do love the 993's, but buying a 12 year old car makes me nervous. Plus from what I understand the 996s are a bit more reliable. You can get a pretty nice '03-'04 996tt for the mid to low $60's. It might depriciate faster than a 993, but IMHO it would be a more comfortable, more reliable supercar.
True... But in my mind new tech is better than old tech- I'd hate to be stuck in traffic on a 110 degree day watching the head temp creap up on my 993tt, and not be able to do anything about it!

And the AC actually works well in the modern 996, not in the old air-cooled cars.
