"crock"? I guess being independently tested in hundreds of tests, used on countless automotive TV shows, review & tested in many famous well renowned magazines ALL proving that it lives up to every single claim... you have the audacity to call it a crock? seems like the only crock here is you.
If you want to buy inferior oils, go right ahead, but your post was 100% pointless. you only have 7 posts, maybe you should keep it that way.

Pardon me if I have a life.
The only oil I mentioned by name was the gear oil I used for the rear diff, Mercedes own part number. You're saying a MB product is inferior?
Go to BITOG and all knowledgeable folks there say, yes Royal Purple is good, but not any better than Redline, Amsoil and Mobil 1.
All the shows that compare it to regular oil are pointless, of course synthetic is better than regular oil, DUH. Let's see a comparison against the best MB1, Redline or Amsoil.
I've tried Redline & amsoil and the rest. I still got much better results than than anything else. Mobil1 isn't really a top end oil anymore hey are just resting on their old reputation, they quality has dropped significantly over the years.
Majority of the BMW community has already switched over exclusively to RP b/c of its properties, especially for their transmissions. Mobil1 is too thin for most of the BMW engines in fact, especially the M50/S50/M52/S52 engines.
I have yet to see a single oil comparison where RP did NOT win hands down. hell if you look at the add at the bottom of the page showing most engine builders using RP for max performance. Its just a better formula plain and simple and b/c their synerlec formula is patented nobody else can copy it.
I have been using it for years now and refuse to let anything else into my drivetrains. Just a hard dose of reality thats all, you can put anything you want in your car, I don't really care but just giving you a bit of advice from experience, there isn't a better oil out there, and now that its available at most stores for roughly the same price as Mobil1 synthetic you'd be foolish not to use it.
I'm sure RP is a fine oil, although I personally would take them more seriously if they didn't seem so gimmicky. Come on, what's the purpose of putting purple dye in engine oil? Perhaps that where the 10% increase in mpg comes from?
Ok Kids, stop fighting, Here are some FACTS, RP is a top quality oil,Red line,M-1 amsoil and some others are also TOP SHELF products. If you find a product that works for you, Then use it!! Just PLEASE, do not post what you THINK is going to pass for "GOOD INFO" when you yourself KNOW is a load of CRAP!!!! If you are "FOOLISH" enough to believe that your fuel mileage is going to increase 2-3 MPG then you are full of the same thing your trying to shovel here!!! HAVE A NICE FRIGGIN DAY!!!!!!!!!
Ok Kids, stop fighting, [SNIP] HAVE A NICE FRIGGIN DAY!!!!!!!!!
I second that. Can we get back to changing the gear oil. Changing the rear diff is very easy. Has anyone done the 6 speed gear oil. I have the Star Service CDROM and it implies that the 6-spd has both gear oil and hydraulic oil, AKA Pentosin synthetic, like what's in the power steering pump.
I was at the dealer and talked to the service adviser about changing the gear oil in a 6-spd and he said "we have to drop the pan to change the gear oil", I said it's a six speed not an auto, he said "yes we have to drop the pan". At which point I said, what pan, that's when I got the blank stare.
Thanks for the DIY info Joe. it was very helpful and very simple. take only about an hour of my time. If you have a lift it would make the job even easier.
To be honest I didn't notice any thing different in performance gain or fuel MPG increase. but i did notice the old fluid is very dark, dirty, watery and it stink! But Fresh synthetic fluid will give me peace of mind so i recommend you should change it with what ever fluid you like either with RP, Mobile 1, Redline what ever your preference just change it. Your rear will thank you

It is not purple Dye... synerlec is actually colored purple, they named the product after its natural color, not naming b/c they artificially put purple dye in there. please get facts straight.
I did countless MPG tests on my E55 and got avg of 2mpg from RP steady under all driving conditions, so it lived up to all the claims, but to each his own.

Verbatim quote right from the Royal Purple site, FAQ page:
Does Royal Purple maintain its purple color after it’s put into service?
No. The dye that’s used to color the oil dissipates shortly after being put into service. The color will turn brown at some point.
