Stock E55 headers = pea shooters (header analysis)
Hey Guys
After doing analysis on the W210 E55 headers (thx jeff for letting me borrow them), I found out they are absolutely TINY. The primary ports are only 1.4 - 1.41" max at the flange and the exit port is only 1.60 - 1.61". Not only that but the primaries are exactly 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the downtube of the headers themselves which is NOT good for flow. At least the insides of the headers are smooth which is still better than alot of BMWs stock manifolds. These things are extremely restrictive and I can see why headers make so much power on these cars.
My 1.75" design will increase area by roughly 60% in total surface area at the ports themselves and roughly 20% at the exit merge. This does not even take into account the fact that my primaries merge at a 45 degree smooth bend instead of perpendicular (90). I have a feeling these headers may make quite a bit of power. 2nd set of prototypes are almost done, should be interesting to see how they turn out. Anyone interested in testing them out?

Those are the same sizes I measured on the E430 mani's. I'm 99.997% sure they are the same exact pieces. They are small for a 4.3 so they are downright tiny for a 5.5

That is why Ohlords suggestion that I should not run headers but simply extrude hone my stock mani's seemed crazy to me (in addition to the extremely small size of course)
suicide = They are 430 manifolds. E39 M5 was the same way, had 540 manifolds. Manufacturers do this to cut costs. usually on these euro V8s the biggest bottle neck is always headers which is why aftermarket headers on them make so much power b/c they free up alot of flow.
Cost will definitely be lower than anything on the market currnetly by a substantial amount. For sure well under $1500, probably under 1250, but cannot give confirmed price until they are officially done.
