Visiting from the W203 board and just wanted to say that this board was extremely informative as I conducted research to replace the family's W203 with an W210.
After selling an M3 for a minivan due to a growing family, I inherited my wife's C240, but it's gotta go. Thought long and hard wether to spend the money on a used E55, but I can't seem to see any negative attitude towards this car. The deal was sealed recently after driving one. It was a 1999, but I need something a little newer.
So, thanks again. Hope to post you soon after I find a decent example. Looking at a 2000 this weekend. Want a 2002, but having trouble finding one here in Canada. Wish me luck. Hope to join this board.

I wouldnt buy an 02' they want too much money, in 2 years they will be going for next to nothing. I'd buy a nice 00' with good 02s have also been said to be less reliable.
Make sure the tranny is in good shape and recently service, also keep in mind brakes cost 1400 dollars and cats are almost 1000 a piece.
I'm pulling the trigger on a 99 for a rediculous low price.
Thanks for the tip on the brakes. The dealer mentioned they were recently replaced as part of safety item. Tranny's worry me. I hesitated on a one after the salesman spoke of a new tranny as a selling feature. Either that car has been beat on (which I expect to some degree) or something went wrong. My only other fear is replacement of parts.
Well good luck on finding a new ride. Where do you live in the great white north? A 2000 E55 I think is the best bang for the buck. Hey your buying a Benz, parts are not cheap, but using the internet for parts will save you alot of dough. Stealership window regulator over $200, internet $70, and working on these cars is not rocket science. Plus lots of help from this forum. A nice thing of buying one of these Benz's is most people who owned these cars babied them and where anal retentive. Do some research and you will find a gem. Good luck!

I'm very far south in the great white north - Windsor, across from Detroit, Mich.
I guess parts for an AMG aren't considerably more than your average MB parts. I also plan to do some maintenace myself, being that I have access to an automotive shop.
AMG production run for US/CAN
E55 W210
1999 - 1104
2000 - 1203
2001 - 653
2002 - 997
Maybe 00 were more abundant? 00-02 were all post-facelift cars.
I think 2000 are new enough that most "bugs" would have been repaired during warranty period. However, if you want one with some MB warranty, you are most likely looking at 2001 and 2002. I can't wrench on the car, so I wanted the peace of mind of the warranty so I got a 2002. If want a 2002, PM me
2000 as stated, more around, have the facelift and will be generally cheaper than an 01 or 02. I rather have that extra money in my pocket to fix the car if something happens, then to rely on warranty. I really dont trust dealerships, they dont repair things properly, hose you on parts and labour and always find a way of work not covered by warranty. Keep that extra dough, and if something does go, there is always somewhere a good honest mechanic that will fix it right and not rob your bank account. Just my two bits
