Anyone know a good place to get a vanity mirror cover

Mine broke off -- the little nub that secures the cover in place broke off. Of course, that is considered "trim" and not covered under Starmark warranty.

Dealer informed me the "good news" that I wouldn't have to replace the whole visor at $175. Instead, I could just replace the plastic cover for $75!

There has got to be a cheaper place for that small piece of plastic.

Any suggestions appreciated. Not an immediate concern (wife can still do her lipstick in the mirror, just no functioning light without the cover). Still would like it fixed at some point.

I like ordering parts from autohausaz.com or oempartsdirect.com - all you need is the part number and you are in business...

good luck

There was a post where someone discussed a small drill and a pin or nail, mine was covered under warranty, I dont think the lid comes seperately, the dealer also has to put on the decals!

Yeah, I drilled out the two ends of the mirror cover and "press-fit" in two stainless steel pins. Works like a charm and took no time at all. Only had to do it on the drivers side as the passengers didn't break yet. It wasn't covered under Starmark for me either. Dealer said I had to replace the whole visor @ $200.

Where did you get the pins? I did the same thing, but the only thing I had around were picture hanger screws, which are too wide. The mirror is up with my fix, but won't close all the way b/c the eyes are too big.

Sorry for the delay, was out of town for business the last few days and had no access to the internet. I had the pins at work. I'm pretty sure that McMaster Carr carries them. When I get back in to work on Monday I'll see if I have a few left on my desk and I can mail them out in an envelope. It's not the easiest to drill though. I wouldn't "free hand" it as one could go through the side or at an angle and that would suck. I had it clamped in a drill press so it could be lined up. I'll post again on Monday otherwise I'll get the part number.

Okay, I got into work today and was able to verify the pins that I utilized. I use MIL Spec parts.

P/N: MS9390-090 (this equates to a diameter 0.09375" +/- .00025" (Length = 0.375") steel pin.)

I only have two of these left and want to hold onto them in the case that the passenger side cover needs the same fix.

I do have P/N: AMS122685 (this equates to a diameter 0.09375" +/- .00025" (Length = 0.5") steel pins)

The slightly longer pins should still work without issue. PM me with your address and I would have no problem mailing them out to help people, until I run out. All these parts can be obtained from McMaster-Carr (different part numbers but similar parts and they go for about $8 per package but who needs 100 pins?)

I would recommend using a 2.35mm drill (0.0925" diameter) as this results in a 0.0015" interference fit. (you gotta get your own drill bit though)

Drill very carefully so they are straight. If you have access to a drill press then you are set. Press fit should need no glue but if you drill too big you can always glue it.

It's tough to fit into the visor but if the hole is slightly deep one can press fit in the pin on one side just deep enough so the cover can be slid in. Then the one pin can be pulled out with needle nose pliers so the visor doesn't fall out. (plus this way you don't run the risk of breaking the frame on the visor).

PM sent.
