Purchased a 1999 e55 just last week an it's been running like a dream, lovely car. Drove it this evening with no problems, but when I went to start it up after leaving it for half an hour or so, it wouldn’t start. The engines tying to start but just wont fire. Plenty of petrol, battery's fine, leads look fine.
I was in a rush to go to work so didn’t get chance to have a really good look other than the basics I've mentioned but also I'm not that mechanically minded anyway! So I’ve had to leave the car at home. Anyone any ideas, I’ve had a quick search on here to see what the problem may be and it sounds like it could be the Crankshaft position sensor? Only thing is I’ve not got a clue were it is could someone please post a picture of it in the engine bay or post a link of it, as I only seem to be able to find descriptions of were it is.
Just an update, especially for anyone doing a search like I was.
The car fired up first time this morning, unfortunately as soon as the temperature gauge reached half way the car cut out an refused to start again (leaving me stranded in rush hour traffic) until the engine had fully cooled down.
Got the AA out, the mechanic suspected a crankshaft sensor fault and had the car recovered and sent back to the dealer, who had the car fixed within a few hours under the warranty.
So the cars back on the road and running like new again. Thanks to this website I was able to gain a pretty good idea to what the problem was and in a worse case scenario, without my dealer’s warranty, could have sorted the problem myself.
