Finally took a road trip last weekend in my new (to me) '02 E55.
Handled very nicely - great power between 60mph and 90mph, but not many places to do that between St. Louis and Chicago without drawing a serious ticket.
Noticed something and wanted to ask if it is to be expected or not......
Cruising at 70mph or so, engine speed at 2100rpm - add a little more gas and an overtone hum/vibration would kick in - slightly higher pitch than the rest of the engine, slightly greater amplitude - up to about 2500rpm and then would fade into the background noise/vibration of the car.
Not a big deal, but I am curious - is this the supercharger? What is it doing? I assume this is normal, but just like to understand the noises.
Mine does that. Is the exhaust. 2002s were naturally aspirated V8s.

I win the idiot award for this post....of course I didn't pay anything extra for a supercharger - just went and looked - thought it had one....super charger? turbo charger? How else do you get that much torque? Makes me want to go an edit out the history of my stupid post!
That's a harmonic exhaust resonance? Yow! Sounds kind of cool. Glad it's not vibrating anything important to pieces....
