new MAF = bucking and surging?

Hi all,

Got a new MAF in the mail and put it in my 2001 E55... then i took it for a drive... all it would do is buck and surge... and it had horrible throttle response... did I get a bad MAF? am I doing something wrong? (I put the old one back in for now)

A bad MAF, or the wrong MAF. I suppose a new MAF would be the way to go. I hope you can exchange your malfunctioning MAF. Good luck.

Thanks for all the feedback...

part number: 280 217 810

I bought it on eBay and the seller assured me that this was the right part...

last time I try to go the cheap route

OMG i am having teh same issues. well it's been fine but today my E55 was bucking very badly for a few seconds as I was coming to a stop. i was like "WTF?????!!!!"

i bought the part on ebay too. it had the bosch part# but not the MB part#. ****** lesson learned, always buy from legit places like autohaus or drivewire. ***********language edited ***********

That number does match up as the right part for an 01 E55. If you can't come to terms with this guy for some reason, we have brand new air mass sensor inserts for $129.

Hi, GermanStar:

I have a question for you. I have both 97 E320 (M104) and 2003 E320 wagon (M112). The 97 MAF insert is held by two security torx screw (6 points) but the 2003 MAF uses a type of secure screw that has only 5 points. The regular secure torx bit does not work on this.

Have you seen bits that has only 5 points?

Thanks,

No I hadn't really noticed, but your 03 does use the same very popular insert as the E55 referenced above.
