The correct Bosch part is 0 280 217 810; cross reference part: 1130940048. You may have the right sensor, but defective. Nonetheless, it should qualify for exchange. I bought mine here, and absolutley no problem. eBay Motors: Mercedes Benz Air Mass Flow Sensor C CL E S Class (item 130102187530 end time Apr-24-07 13:18:37 PDT)

The one on 03 has not failed yet but I was preparing for it . If it does fail, I will try an insert. That is why I was looking at the screws to see how to remove the insert.

I ended up cleaning it by removing the whole sensor with the housing. Actaully the sapy can reach quite deep into the sensor from the backside.

Yes, as I said, it is the correct part. Surprisingly, I actually had the wherewithal to add the missing zero.

You know, I've been hearing more and more good result stories from folks cleaning MAF sensors. Seems like a good way to go.....

FYI - the "5 pointed" Torx Screws are - Tamper-Proof TORX Plus, and bits are available, for example see Amazon.com: 11 Pc. Tamper-Proof TORX Plus Bits Socket Set: Automotive

Though I got my set at Autozone (special order, came overnight) for only $39.95.

I have a MY2001 S600, using MAF (Air Mass Sensor) A 113 094 00 48 - A VERY common Mercedes MAF starting from 1998 through 2007, and I believe it used a T20 or T25, Tamper-Proof TORX Plus.

This IS a relatively easy DTY Project - note that Siemens VDO MAF's are usually available in the $100 - $150 range.

Thank you,m norm1909, or the information on the correct name of the screws. Is your Autozone bits also SK brand?

Exclamation

While certainly very late (Sorry), for those it may still help, I should have noted that for $39.95, I got only a 4 piece "no name" set - though they did trick. Got to love MAF's on ANY car, they are very precise, delicate parts prone to failure - and usually result in codes leading one to think their Oxygen Sensors, catalytic convertor, spark plugs, etc are the problem - wish I had a dime for every un-necessary repair a bad MAF has caused.

not sure how upto date this is.. BUT.... when i replaced mine.. it did the same... basically the car adapted to the old one for so long when the new one went on it SH*T itself

did just the same bucking, serging.. even mis-fired leaving grey (fuel) smoke behind..... i had th ewhole car RE_SET via mercedes specialist.. as in totally reset everything!!!!! and car worked like a dream.... the adapted car even went as far as shutting down my O2 sensors as they stopped switching....

But all fine now....... at 1st i even bought another MAF as i did the same.. thought MAN I BOUGHT A BROKEN 1.. no i didn't so i keep it as a spare
